Draft Rules:

1. All NBA/ABA seasons from 1959-60 to 2024-25 are eligible, subject to the restrictions outlined below.

2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players in 8 rounds. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations. Any player chosen in a season that is pre-merger will have a multiplier of 0.85 applied against their actual fga, rounded to closest 0.1.

3. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.

4. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected. He needs to play at least 50% of his games for an eligible franchise.

5. Your final team should have one representative for each of the following 8 categories:

Category 1 - A player who played 50% of his games in the given season for Portland Trail Blazers (in honor of Bill Walton, Brandon Roy and Greg Oden)
Category 2 - A player who played 50% of his games in the given season for Chicago Bulls (in honor of Derrick Rose)
Category 3 - A player who played 50% of his games in the given season for Detroit Pistons (in honor of Grant Hill)
Category 4 - A player who played 50% of his games in the given season for Houston Rockets (in honor of Yao Ming and Ralph Sampson)
Category 5 - A player who played 50% of his games in the given season for Orlando Magic (in honor of Penny Hardaway and Tracy McGrady)
Category 6 - Comeback Season: A player selected in a season consecutive to a season where he had an ineligible number of games, i.e. a season where a played less than 50% of the games. To clarify: in the missed season, he may or may not have played a game in the regular season/playoff, but the comeback season must not be his rookie season.
Category 7 - Single time All NBA First: A player who throughout his career was selected once to an All NBA First team (doesn't have to be selected in this exact season where he won the accolade). Excluding players who were second in MVP votes multiple times.
Category 8 - Top 5 pick non-All Star/All NBA: A player who was never selected to an All-Star game or to an All NBA team, but was selected in the top 5 for his draft. Minimum 3 seasons in the NBA with at least one game.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA.

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by polls. AI will be used as a single vote when a matchup is tied and stuck.

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs/rankings

I think we should wait a few days for the other games.

Notice I changed the phrasing a bit for categories 6 and 7:

Category 6 - Comeback Season: A player selected in a season consecutive to a season where he had an ineligible number of games, i.e. a season where a played less than 50% of the games. To clarify: in the missed season, he may or may not have played a game in the regular season/playoff, but the comeback season must not be his rookie season.

Earlier I defined that in the missed season the player must have played a game, but that doesn't fully capture the essence which is returning from an injury. A fully missed season also fits the theme. The rookie clarification is excluding guys like rookie Ben Simmons or Chet Holmgren - while they are borderline fits for the theme - no way to distinguish them and a guy like Arvydas Sabonis who was drafted and then continued playing overseas, so I just left all those cases out.

Category 7 - Single time All NBA First: A player who throughout his career was selected once to an All NBA First team (doesn't have to be selected in this exact season where he won the accolade). Excluding players who were second in MVP votes multiple times

A guy like Embiid doesn't really fits the theme because if All NBA was positionless at the time, he would've made All NBA First, so added the second sentence clarification.

Doesn't seem like it will be an issue, but we shouldn't exceed 10 drafters after diving into the #7 criteria. Even with 10 we'd have a couple guys who never get drafted

The concern I have with this category is that many of the players who fit it also play for one of those teams.

I didn't consider that. Since it's such a small pool, maybe it'd be worth implementing a rule that they can only be used for the 7th category

To be clear there’s actually quite a few players I wouldn’t mind for this category though. With 8 I’m not too concerned.

It’s a shallower category than the team ones. So many of those players will be used in that category. And there are numerous guys not on those teams that I’d use if need be. They aren’t guys normally drafted but they’re great players.

Another adjustment suggestion:

Category 8 - Top 5 pick non-All Star/All NBA: A player who was never selected to an All-Star game or to an All NBA team, but was selected in the top 5 for his draft. Minimum 3 seasons in the NBA with at least one game.

Seems like a natural adjustment as this aims to capture guys who didn't live up the expectations fully. Some promising you guys don't really fit that, and it's only a matter of time before they are All Star.

WDYT?

Just keep it the same.

No more changes IMO.
