Free Agency Draft - Playin - Snakebites vs Square*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Jul 14, 2025 7:30 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

F/G Khris Middleton '20: 21/6/4 on 50/42/92 shooting, +4 BPM, All-Star
F/G Lebron James '17: 26/9/9 on 62 TS%, (Playoffs 33/9/8), +8 BPM, +10 Playoff BPM, 5th in DPoY, All-NBA 1st
F/G Mike Miller '15: had a pet monkey
F/G Jimmy Butler '23: 23/6/5/2 on 54/35/85 shooting, (Playoffs 27/7/6), +9 BPM, All-NBA 2nd
F Lamar Odom '09: 11/8/3/1/1, 32 3P%, 2nd in NBA in RAPM, NBA Champ
F/C Chet Holmgren '24: 17/8/2/2/1 on 53/37/79 shooting, +3 BPM
C Myles Turner '25: 16/7/2/2/1 on 48/40/77 shooting

Picks, FGA, etc.:
Spoiler:
Round 1: Lebron (Cleveland, 18.2) + Butler (Miami, 13.9)
Round 2: Middleton (Milwaukee, 15.3) + Turner (Indiana, 11.3)
Round 3: Holmgren (OKC, 11.6) + GP2 (GSW, 4.8)
Round 4: Odom (LAL, 9.0) + Miller (Cleveland, 2.2->3.0)

Total FGA: 87.9

Rotation:
G Middleton 38 / Lebron 10
G Butler 38 / GP2 10
F Lebron 30 / GP2 10 / Miller 8
F Holmgren 20 / Odom 28
C Turner 34 / Holmgren 14

About Team Square:
The goal was to build an absolutely huge team around Lebron without sacrificing skill, and I think we got there. Physicality, shooting, defense. Guys who have come up big in the playoffs.

Offensively, we have shooting to space the floor around Lebron and Playoff Jimmy attacking the rim. Butler's cutting and quick seals and Middleton's shooting make them both great secondary offensive options next to Lebron, and our bigs invert the floor to tie opposing defenses in knots guarding Lebron. Guards get mercilessly attacked by our size and physicality. Odom gives another huge and creative playmaker off the bench.

Defensively, our perimeter is huge and nasty and we have two high level shot-blockers to clean up messes.

Vs. Snakebites:
Snake has built a great defensive team, but I think our offense is just more creative and reliable. He lacks the elite playmaking he'd need to keep pace with us, and overall I'd bet on us slowing him down more than the reverse.

Defensively, we can play the starters straight up without too much trouble. The fact that he starts not one but two low-usage offensive players in Wallace and Iguodala means that we should be able to bottle up his offense pretty well. Turner (guarding Wallace) can roam and Lebron can play free safety to blow up actions. GP2 off the bench can put out fires against Billups or Allen. I don't think he has the explosive scorers or all-around beautiful offense he'd need to put up points efficiently against our size.

On the other end, obviously Iggy/KG/Wallace is as good a defensive trio as it gets and nothing I say can minimize that. I do think there are enough seams for our explosive playmakers to do more damage than his offense though. We can attack Allen whenever we want with isos or screening actions. Towns being on the floor causes big issues defensively against a team with playmaking wings and shooting bigs.

So overall I'd bet on a physical series, with Lebron+Jimmy finding ways to push our offense over the top while he struggles to score as much against our size.

Good luck Snakebites.

PG: Chauncey Billups 05-06 12.5 FGA- All NBA 2nd, All Defensive 2nd
19/9, 60% TS, 43% 3pt on 5.4 Attempts

SG: Ray Allen 05-06 19.2 FGA- All Star
25/4/4, 59% TS, 41% 3pt on 8.4 Attempts

SF: Andre Iguodala 14-15 6.4 FGA Finals MVP
8/3/3

PF: Kevin Garnett 04-05 16.6 FGA, All NBA 2nd, All Defensive 2nd
22/14/6, 9.1 VORP

C: Ben Wallace 02-03 6.0 FGA- All NBA 2nd, DPOY
7/15/3

B: Karl Anthony-Towns 23-24 15.3 FGA- All Star
22/8, 63% TS, 42% 3pt on 5.3 Attempts

B: Brent Barry 03-04 7.2 FGA
11/6/4, 67% TS, 45% 3pt on 4.3 Attempts

B: Shaun Livingston 16-17 4.2 FGA
5/2/2

Total: 87.4/88 FGA

Rotation:

Billups (37)/Livingston (11)
Allen (37)/Barry (11)
Iguodala (30)/Barry (18)
Garnett (37)/Towns (11)
Wallace (28)/Towns (20)

Obviously my team is modeled after the 2000s Pistons, but upgraded and supplemented with more offensive punch. You've got Chauncey and Ben, of course, but you've also got prime Sonics Ray Allen, who's a better shooter and shot creator than Richard Hamilton. You've also got Iggy, who is a glue guy in the vein of Tayshaun Prince, but with better defense and playmaking. And of course the stretch big duo of Rasheed and Okur has been replaced with superstar power in the form of prime Kevin Garnett (the NEW heart and soul of this team) and Karl Anthony-Towns, who essentially serves as a 6th starter in this matchup.

It's ironic that Square's team is so large, because I actually think I dominate him on the glass. Even in the slow paced 2000s, Ben Wallace and Kevin Garnett both dominate the glass with over 13 rebounds per game. Turner and Chet are nice stretch bigs, but they're simply going to get out boddied and absolutely dominated on the glass here. Even KAT is a better rebounder than they are, and he doesn't even have a bigger body off the bench to help balance it out.

Furthermore, the defensive versatility of KG and Ben, coupled with somewhat offensively limited Myles Turner (decent shooter but really no offensive creator) really smooth over any matchup issues his larger perimeter rotation might represent.

Overall I think my offensive core of Chauncey, Allen, KG, and KAT fit together like pieces to a puzzle. It's an extremely spaced out and potent offense where all pieces complement each other, whereas the fit between Lebron, Middleton, and Butler, while workable, has more overlap between them.

Vote SNAKE!

Think Snake's big man trio makes the difference on both ends here.
