Jrue Holiday Draft - Semi - Dr Positivity vs wackbone*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Tue Sep 2, 2025 11:03 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Total: 87.9/88 FGA

Rotations:
Oscar Robertson (38) / Steve Blake (10)
Klay Thompson (38) / Kawhi Leonard (10)
Kawhi Leonard (28) / James Posey (20)
Charles Barkley (38) / James Posey (10)
Dave Cowens (38) / Alexis Ajinça (10)

Writeup:

Helluva team as always Dr. P, best of luck!

Defensively we will start with Klay on Steph, Oscar on Pierce, Kawhi on Erving, Barkley on Butler, and Cowens on Sabonis. Posey will also see significant time on their wing trio.

Klay is very familiar with Steph's game and is an elite POA defender, Oscar and Pierce are similarly slow footed and a bit older, Kawhi is an elite wing defender to have on Dr. J, Butler uses more of a physical game at this point in his career so Barkley can at least hold his ground in that area, and Cowens doesn't really need to worry about Sabonis or Chandler all that much offensively. And we have Posey as another legitimate wing defender off of the bench. Overall I think we match up fairly well.

Dr. P's offense has a bit of a questionable fit IMO, just feels awkward. Pierce-Dr. J-Butler all have relatively similar roles. Steph will get his but I'm not sure this offense is optimized for him either. I do like the Steph-Sabonis two man game but again you also have all of Pierce-Dr. J-Butler. Again, the talent is high, but the fit just feels... off?

I truly believe the biggest defensive liability in the series is Steph, as he will be guarding either 5th in MVP Oscar as the POA defender or he'll be on Klay who can largely just shoot over him. Steph's not the worst defender in the matchup, but I think he'll have the hardest time defensively.

Our team just fits together a bit better with more-defined roles and less overlap, and also higher overall individual production in the chosen seasons:
Steph - 1st in MVP Kawhi - 2nd in MVP
Dr. J - 1st in MVP Barkley - 2nd in MVP
Butler - 11th in MVP Cowens - 3rd in MVP
Pierce - 14th in MVP Oscar - 5th in MVP
Sabonis - N/A Klay - 10th in MVP

PG: Stephen Curry (2015: 16.8 FGA) - brother
SG: Paul Pierce (2008: 13.7 FGA) - Celtics
SF: Jimmy Butler (2020: 13.1 FGA) - 15-30
PF: Julius Erving (1981: 18.6 FGA) - 76ers
C: Arvydas Sabonis (1996: 9.9 FGA) - Blazers

PG/SG: Alex Caruso (2023: 4.3 FGA) - 2 rings
SG: Jason Terry (2017: 3.3 FGA) - Bucks
C: Tyson Chandler (2008: 7.7 FGA) - New Orleans

84.1 / 88

PG: Stephen Curry (38) / Alex Caruso (10)
SG: Paul Pierce (24) / Alex Caruso (16) / Jason Terry (8)
SF: Jimmy Butler (34) / Paul Pierce (14)
PF: Julius Erving (38) / Jimmy Butler (6) / Tyson Chandler (4)
C: Arvydas Sabonis (26) / Tyson Chandler (22)

Defensive matchups: Curry on Oscar, Pierce on Klay, Erving on Kawhi, Butler on Barkley (we mix in some Chandler and Erving), Sabonis on Cowens.

We're not that bothered by Curry guarding Bucks Oscar, the Barkley issue is bigger but we'll make up for it by Barkley guarding a perimeter player in Butler.

The benches are a big difference here. Caruso and Chandler are a great 6th and 7th man and both will play key roles for me in defensive matchups with Chandler getting Barkley time, while he is playing a true jabroni center in Alexis Ajinca, while I slightly prefer my 8th man Terry to his 7th best player 34 year old Blake (not the prime Roy era one we remember, but coming back in his 2nd last year).

Our team is a bit more newschool due to being built around Curry, we'll have more speed and shooting overall. Cowens will have to go to 3pt line to guard Sabonis which leaves Barkley vulnerable on D. Curry and Erving are a great fit and like the older versions Butler allows Curry to play off the ball more. Pierce will have a lot of space to score with defenders on Curry and Erving. We'll live with Cowens scoring and help on Barkley a fair amount.
