2000s Draft Redux - R2 - durantbird vs MadNess*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sun Sep 14, 2025 1:03 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

SG: Dwyane Wade 36 / Dan Majerle 12
SF: Peja Stojakvoic 38 / Dan Majerle 8 / Scottie Pippen 2
PF: Scottie Pippen 30 / Anthony Mason 18

vs

PG: Chauncey Billups (39) | Kobe Bryant (9)
SG: Kobe Bryant (31) | Stephen Jackson (17)
SF: Bruce Bowen (32) | Lamar Odom (16)
PF: Kevin Durant (36) | Lamar Odom (12)
Cc: Dikembe Mutombo (40) | Reggie Evans (8)

Matchup
- Defensive assignments straight up: Cassell vs Billups, Wade vs Kobe, Peja vs Bowen, Pippen vs Durant, Robinson vs Mutombo.
- We match up well here. Majerle/Pippen/Mason can all rotate defending Kobe and young Durant, with Wade as primary Kobe defender, and Cassell as another good option on Bryant.
- Considering young slim pre-All-Star KD as second option for MadNess, I think our team is much more balanced. Durant in his first year as an All-Star in 2010' - a year later - only shot 35% from the field during playoffs being guarded by Artest, and here he also faces big challenges like Pippen/Mason. We have a very balanced 1-3 with Cassell-Wade-Peja all in prime versions, and Pippen/Mason/Robinson form a scary defensive front court who complement our team very well, with great versatility. I think Wade-Peja-Robinson is the stronger trio here, and Cassell-Pippen-Mason give us three other All-Star-ish impact guys.

Write UP

We offer a stifling defense with Billups, Kobe, Bowen, Mutombo, SJax, Odom and even Reggie Evans. Durant is our only “weak” defender who was still figuring out how to defend. All players are good one on one defenders and good team defenders. Dare I say we have the best defense in this draft? We can switch on the wings and switch on the bigs if needed. Mutombo holds down the paint, and Kobe can stay fresh for offense with Bowen on the wing.

Offensively we will have a traditional offense with balance. Kobe will demand a double which means someone will always be open. Billups, Bowen and Durant even at this stage were all knock down shooters. Durant should be able to score at will as the second or third option. Our bench is absolutely loaded with SJax and Odom.

VS DB

Kobe on Peja, Bowen on Wade, Billups on Cassell, KD on old man Pippen, and PEAK Mutombo on old man Robinson.

We match up beyond well here. There are zero outliners that will kill us. Overall team defense is much better than DB’s.

Offensively we will attack Cassell and Peja.

Wade cannot guard Kobe 40 mins a game and be affective on offense for 40 minutes a game.

Wade is the main scorer and offense for DB

My bench is significantly better here. Odom and SJax were contributing on championship teams while DB’s bench is all past its prime players.

Vote NESS for Kobe and KD advancing!
