RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
First off, the game started on September 24; so any contract change that happened after that in real life is void in GM a Team (ex. extensions signed by RFA Jason Maxiell and others, extension by UFA Jeff Foster, and Team Options on rookie contracts that were picked up an example is Rondo and Maurice Ager); alot of players had their team options accepted before the deadline like oden and horford; but those that didn't will have to have their options picked up.
Also decisions on Player Options and Early Termination Options will be decided shortly and posted on this thread.
I have asked bcortell to be in charge of Team Options and finding out if teams are extending qualifying offers to their Restricted Free Agents (If you extend a Qualifying Offer you can match any contract that is offered to that player (an example is the Josh Smith contract from last season); but the player can also choose to take a one year salary equal to the Qualifying Offer amount and become an unrestricted free agent in the next offseason (an example was Ben Gordon from last season)if the Qualifying Offer is extended to him.)
Also, a new post draft roster thread where 2009 team salaries are to be calculated
viewtopic.php?f=340&t=880908&p=18584884#p18584884
Any questions, e-mail me at skorf26@yahoo.com

Why the hell can't I extend my TOs to Durant, Cook and Redick? What do you mean 09-10 off-season?

Re: RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
Guys- Skorff supplied me with a list of RFA and guys with TO's. I didn't check the list beforehand, but it looks like he is a year ahead of time. In our game, we just finished simulating the 08-09 season. Many of the guys on the list have contracts that run through 09-10 and then become RFA. That is why I am saying hold off. (I am correct with this, right?) So I encourage everyone to check the players on their roster and see who is a RFA (or has a Team Option) and when.

All you have to do is pick up their team options for 2009-2010. They have been picked up in real life but AFTER the date we started our game.
Here it is for Durant from the transactions page
Oct 16, 2008
The Oklahoma City Thunder exercised the 2009-10 contract options on forward Jeff Green and guard-forward Kevin Durant.
Since it happened on October 16 and the game started on September 24; Durant did not have his team option picked up for next season yet; so just to clarify, all you have to do is pick up his option because when we had started the game Oklahoma City had not picked it up yet.

Re: RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
Alright guys, I want to reiterate this- if you look on Shamsports, a lot of these guys don't have Team Options til 2010. That's because their respective teams have already picked up the option for this upcoming season. Skorff went through all the transactions and found out which teams did this after we started the game. So the list is correct and email away with all your decisions. bcortell@yahoo.com
Thanks for being patient.

Re: RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
The salary cap will be set at 61,900,000. I got this number since the 2007-2008 salary cap was 55.63 million; 2008-2009 is 58.68 million; thus it increased 5.48% and a 5.48 % increase from 2008-2009 sets the cap at 61.90 million.
Each team over the salary cap gets a mid level exception and it will be 5.819 million dollars; I used the same principle 5.36 in 07-08; 5.585 in 08-09; a 4.2% increase which sets it at 5.819 million
Each team also gets a bi-annual exception of 1.99 million; I got this number from this website(#19)
http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q1
Hopefully I got my math right
Also I will be contacting every team about which unrestricted free agents and that they want to retain their bird rights to. Since there are several categories for capholds
http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q30
I think that every UFA will receive a cap hold of 1.5 x previous salary (to avoid confusion); a team can renounce the bird rights and the cap hold will disappear. If you keep the players bird rights; then a team can exceed the salary cap to resign that player. I hopefully will start sending out e-mails to teams later today.

FYI - Walter Herrmann is not a RFA for Detroit. He was traded to the the Bucks along with Rip/Tay for Bogut/Ridnour/Gadz. I have no idea what team he belongs to ATM though.

Re: RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
So if I want to sign Bynum to a long term deal I have to decline picking up his QO? I mos def will not be picking him up at the QO to let hm be unrestricted in 2010. I want him long term, now
I would also have to assume that if my offer to sign him is less than another team's that I have time to match that offer due to his restricted status.

^^^^ If you do not make the QO you will not be able to match any offer made to Bynum. Without a qualifying offer the player goes from being a RFA to an UFA. You don't want to leave yourself open to losing Bynum.

For some reason I thought a QO was the amount it took to keep them for that last year if the player wouldn't except a new contract.
However it works for me to keep him restricted is what I want.

Don't worry. I know how much you would hate to lose Bynum and won't let such a silly misunderstanding kill your chances of keeping him.

Also Max contracts
Players with (1-6 years of experience) is 25% of the cap so 15,475,000 for the first season
Players with (7-9 years of experience) is 30% of the cap so 18,570,000 for the first season
Players with (10+ years of experience) is 35% of the cap so 21,665,000 for the first season
Got that information from here http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q11
-Also you can offer another teams player up to an 8% raise per season, and a team can offer their own player up to a 10.5% raise per season.
Also, you can start sending in your offers for your own free agents now send offers to skorf26@yahoo.com (I am at work until about 5 today, so I will respond when I get home to the available offers)

Re: RealGM GM a Team - Free Agency Information Thread
A few guidelines to follow, when sending an offer to a free agent please include
1. the salary that is being offered
2. approximately how many minutes a player will play per game
3. a brief reason why a player would be a good fit for your team
Also if you would like to offer a contract to free agents list them in order that you would want them, a quick example.
Offering the MLE to
1. Carlos Boozer (with reasons to sign for all free agents)
2. Danny Granger
3. Marvin Williams
4. Andrew Bynum
5. Rasheed Wallace
6. Shawn Marion
7. Ron Artest
8. Paul Millsap
a few more
15. 3 million a year to Matt Barnes
16. 4 million a year to Charlie Vilanueva
-Maybe other teams had better offers for the first 15 of your offers, but than you sign the 16th best FA for your team in Vilanueva; this way teams can get a player they want more rather than waiting to see if a free agent picks your offer and then if it isn't picked realize your second choice has already been signed somewhere else.
