New 24 Team NBA Dispersal Draft-Who wants to GM a Team

Post#1 » by daddyfivestar » Fri Jul 24, 2009 3:57 pm

I'm tired of the current NBA and contracting back to 24 teams to make them deeper.
The teams contracted are:
Charlotte Bobcats
Los Angeles Clippers
Memphis Grizzlies
Minnesota Timberwolves
New Orleans Hornets
Sacramento Kings

This 2-rd draft will consist of the remaining 24 teams and any player from the 6 contracted teams can be drafted, excluding FA's as of July 1, 2009. If the player has an option or non-guarantee and is still on the roster as of July 24, they are fair game.

Reverse standings order will be used. Tiebreakers were used with H2H first and pt differential in those games second.
1. Wiz 2. Thunder
3. Warriors 4. Knicks
5. Raps 6. Nets
7. Bucks 8. Pacers
9. Pistons 10. Bulls
11. Sixers 12. Heat
13. Suns 14. Hawks
15. Jazz 16. Mavs
17. Rox 18. Spurs
19. Nuggets 20. Blazers
21.Magic 22. Celtics
23. Lakers 24. Cavs

48 players off of 6 teams. Your 11th and 12th guys jobs are in danger as you upgrade with other teams superstars, starters or 6th men. This is the NBA of the 80's, 10 deep.

Keep in mind you add salary with these picks, so if your team is cost conscious it might be better to take a guy on a rookie deal instead of player already making bank.

Let me know here if you want to rep a team and we'll begin in a few days. I'll put the Poster name next to the team and all updates will be on Post # 2 throughout.

will every player on one of the 24 teams be protected or will there be a limited number?

oh, and start a thread on the regular trade board with a link to this thread and i'll sticky it. going to be tough to get 24 players though, i imagine.

Only players from the 6 Contracted teams can be drafted - so current players on the 24 teams are not eligible.

That's a pool of probably 80 players to pick from to get 48 picked. Since the cap plays into it, it's a tough call for the Wiz for instance to add Chris Paul's salary and go way over the tax, or take a Griffin or someone on an inexpensive deal. That's part of the pick calculation.

sorry for the questions, don't know which team to pick yet.

I thought about trades but think it'll be much smoother and easier to just straight pick.

I'm thinking each picker lists their current roster of players under contract and pick.
Example:

Lakers
Fisher/Farmar/Brown
Kobe/Sasha/Yue
Artest/Walton/Ammo
Pau/Powell/(Arthur)
Bynum/Mbenga

pick 23, select Arthur (Mem)
add 1.05 to payroll

Something like that I think.

A few teams have 15 under contract already so they'd have to also put in a waived player:
ie
waive Yue, cut 736k from payroll

if a guaranteed player if waived, they will not cut payroll since it is still on the books.

I'll take the Sonics err Thunder if we are allowed to make trades. No trading = no fun.

From what I understand of this

it will be 24 teams assigned RANDOMLY assigned not pick your own team like some ppl are doing?
then the 48 player draft

and then the same as GM a Team?

I'll take a team. If we get to choose our own, I'll take the Blazers. If not, then I'm still down for this.

roc you can have Thunder - if you want to change the pick you can or you can keep CP3
brown you have Raptors
kdawg you have Blazers

just look back on the page to see who has been taken off of CHA, NOH, MEM, MIN, LAC, SAC and when it's your team go.
In the mean time I'm polling team pages for picks of others.

Not random. You can be whichever team you want to and when it's your turn, take someone off of the contracted teams.

For the Raptors, I select Al Jefferson.

Also, are we allowed to trade? Because I drafted the best player available IMO and otherwise I would have to have Bargnani as my 6th man with Big Al and Bosh starting.

just out of curiosity, how did you settle in on those 6 teams to be desolved?
