GM a Dynasty - Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by BlackIce » Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:34 pm

Hey you guys I was thinking of hosting a GM dynasty game very much like Sabas tried to do (all credit to him for the idea). It would start in 2000 and go to 2010. We'd have a GM for each team and it would be a long term game. I'd need some help but for now just wondering if you guys would be interested in it.

I'm thinking:

1999-2000 roster - updated with real life cap and salary figures.

Draft - We will vote for rankings (I.E playoff, lotto teams) and have a draft lottery accordingly. It will be weighted more heavily for teams competing and I still have to figure out the scoring system, I'm very open to suggestions. I'd like to participate and run it.

We'll have the 1999/2000 cap at $40 mill and a hard cap at $60 mill with a 2.5 increase to both each year.

8 round expansion draft with a FA period right after. Use 1999/2000 salary numbers. I'm thinking snake draft or ABBBA not sure but ya.

We'll have 20 teams, 10 in the east, 10 in the west.

BTW

Only sign up if you plan on sticking with it for the long haul. I will give priority to posters I know are active.

More to come and by all means ask questions. Make sure you include your email and AIM. If your in the other GM game don't bother though I'll get it.

My email is allstar_1264@hotmail.com and my AIM is kingblackice1991

I would like to know how the game works before setting anything in stone.

If we get to draft through those years then mos def will take Detroit.

Ok let me keep track of who has who. The main issue will be the scoring system and draft but shouldn't be that hard.

So far I have a framework but I'll be flexible depending on what "the people" want.

One thing though, we will draft year to year like we always do, vote, throw the lotto teams in a randomizer and proceed.

It will be strict in terms of time for picks, rosters, etc.

I will have the cap updated each year and it will be every teams responsibility to have their salary in order. I will determine FA BUT when I put in an offer/sign a player there will be a public veto system if you guys think its not fair or realistic. I think this can work, as long as most GM's are active.

Will we be starting with 2000/2001 teams or 1999/2000?

I'm debating between doing a true "team of the decade" where the team with the most titles wins (though we'd have to take what the team was to begin with) or a more complex scoring system.

Its gotta be a scoring system that doesn't give anyone a head start.

I think I'm out, BTW. My Realgm time will be increasingly devoted to the forums I moderate as the season gets more into full swing.

I'll be curious to see how this works out, though.

Yup I agree the scoring system will be the hardest thing to work out. Feel free to pop in and check it out when you've got the time.

The scoring system itself is going to be the difficult part, but you absolutely cannot go with a "most titles wins" scenario. Especially if we aren't forecasting chemistry issues on LA's team. The ONLY reason anyone challenged LA/SAS was because of trades that won't happen now. Bibby won't be traded for JWill, Pippen doubtfully makes it to Portland, etc.

That being said, I don't have an alternate suggestion at the moment :)

And I'll take Orlando.
