My team compared to Real life team I took over …

When I took over as GM of the Magic my goal was to build a better, deeper all round traditional team around the best big man in the NBA. And to be reasonable with payroll. Huge payrolls are just not realistic, and I wanted a team payroll (current and future) to be something the real life Magic would have. As tempting as it was with some great offers, I refused to trade my franchise player which to me is very important. The real life Magic made a drastic change in real life (trading away Turk for VC and giving BIG$ and long term deal to Bass, plus resigning Gortat). I did not like how that team was built, and the long term financial commitment they made to some players. Plus in my option they had a weak bench and that showed in the finals. I wanted to build a young bench so I could survive any injuries and put team players around Dwight.

Jameer vs JKidd
I love Jameer but his injuries scared me. JKidd is one of the best true PG’s to ever play the game so I think for a team trying to win it all, who better to run the team.

VC vs Ray Allen
I personally thing ray is a better TEAM player and has proven he can share the ball and play a role on a Championship winning team. Plus we love his clutch shooting and ability to be a threat from 3. Teams can not leave him to double Dwight

Shard vs Capt Jack
Dumping the HUGE LONG contract of Shard was one of my #1 goals when I took over the team. I can not justify that type of long financial commitment for a 3rd option. Once you get past his over the top personality, Jack is a great player. He can D up against anyone, can play 3 positions and is a great passer. A jack of all trades. I think I have strong veteran leadership around him to keep him in line, plus WINNING cures everything.

Bass vs David West
Do I even need to explain this at all? West is an All Star player on a very good contract. No brainer!

Bench
Gortat vs Murphy
Gortat is one of the worst contracts in the game, and even thou Murph is paid more per year, his deal is way shorter and justified. He would be fine coming off the bench (getting 23 min a game) grabbing boards and shooting a very good % from 3

Pietrus vs Morrow
Morrow was one of the best 3 point shooters in the NBA as a rookie, the sky is his limit. Pietrus is too inconsistent for my liking

OUR FUTURE

As much as I am built to win it all now, My future is not hurt by this. My franchise player is young (23) and has many many dominate years left. All Star David West is not old (29), and my bench is very young Morrow (24), Thornton (25), Sessions (23), W.Bynum (26), Robin Lopez (21), and rookies Pattrick Patterson (20) and Renardo Sidney (19). Plus I have many Euro’s waiting to come over. And I do have picks to keep building unlike others.

SUMMARY

As much as a few teams in the Eaast have closed the gap and will have a nice playoff run, we feal at the end of the day, We are the top team in the East



and when everything plays out, we do not believe that any team out West is more talented or deep enough to beat us in a 7 game series. Some may have bigger names, but TEAMS win, and a line-up featuring 3 current All Sars, a Hall of Famer and an underrated jack of all trades, isn't bad.

Improvement for win-now: Pacers are going to be a 30-win team. That's comparable to the real-life Pacers. There is a real PG now, compared to TJ Ford, in Ty Lawson and Chris Duhon is a great backup PG. At SG, Jerryd Bayless is the SG of the future, but Mike Dunleavy starts and can do a lot for the team, and Marquis Daniels backs up the position, making the rotation airtight and consistent. At the 3, Danny Granger is a star, and he's backed up by the defensive hound Dahntay Jones, and Marquis Daniels patches the holes at that position, too. Marreese Speights is a great young PF/C, and BJ Mullens has the potential to be a good starting center. Arnett Moultrie, the young standout from UTEP shows a lot of promise and athleticism for the frontcourt.

Improvement for the future: Every position will have future prospects. The frontcourt has Speights, Mullins, and Moultrie. Granger is still young. The backcourt has Ty Lawson and Jerryd Bayless. There are 3 2011 firsts, Solomon Jones is still young, and there is a lot of capspace for 2011, enough for one max contract and them some.

How this team came to be:

When I first became the GM of the Bulls, I wanted to clear cap room and make a run at the top free agents in the summer of 2010. I was successfully able to dump the Bulls’ big contracts, but then FA hit. I struck out on LeBron and Wade, but I was still able to use my cap space to sign many roll players.

The most controversial trade I made was the Rose trade. I got back quite the haul, as I was able to acquire Mayo, Conley, and Marc Gasol (who was eventually traded for Brooks). I also was able to acquire Beasley in a trade shortly after that.

Overall, my team has a great mix of youth and experience. Mayo, Beasley, Conley, and Noah provide an extremely bright future for the Bulls while Prince and Haslem both bring championship experience to the younger guys.

These Bulls also have a great balance on the court. Mayo, Brooks, Salmons, and Beasley will light it up on the offensive end while Prince, Noah, and Haslem will anchor the defense.

This team is clearly better than the one I started with. Gone are the huge contracts of Deng and Hinrich. While losing Rose hurts, overall there is more depth and young talent to this team.

Direction: Win Later

When we started we inherited a team with no direction, underachieving lottery picks, too many ego's and no true leader. The real life Grizzlies have the lowest attendance in the league, primarily because they don't have any star power. While getting a young star was our top priority, we also wanted to surround our young talent with players who could teach them how to win. Ultimately this lead us to acquiring a semi youthful core of Kevin Durant/Andrew Bogut/Jameer Nelson/Shannon Brown/CJ Watson, with experienced vets Michael Finley/Jermaine O'Neal/Keith Bogans & the recently acquired Carlos Boozer.

If you compare the team I have now with the team I started off with, you'll notice that it's much improved.

Spurs (pre-blackmagic makeover)
When we took over we had a contender but it was very flawed. For one it was aging quickly, some said the championship window was already closed. Also a key piece, Ginobli, had lost a lot of value he was injury prone and simply aging quickly. Also at 89 mill we had a high payroll. We simply didn't have the depth that LA/BOS/ORL had.


Direction

I decided instead of rebuilding I'd try and both develop at elite young core AND try and win a ring in 2010. A daunting task, usually its one or the other however I think I accomplished my goal.

Spurs (post- blackmagic makeover)
We ended up with a pretty young core of Chandler/Anthony/Johnson/Parker. We also have a youngish defensive PF in Hayes to take over when KG retires. We feel that our core can win now and as each year passes and the other contenders (particularly LA and ORL though they are both great as well) get older we will be getting better and better. My main guys are just entering their primes.

KG was brought in to replace Duncan and though he isn’t the monster he used to be he is still a top PF in this league. Also in this role he simply has to concentrate on guarding the Duncans and Gasols and Howards of the league and being our defensive anchor and leader. He brings that veteran experience that is very important on a team that wants to win a championship. He is also willing to defer on offense along with Chandler which is important because Parker/JJ/Melo will be getting most of the touches on offensive. Having KG as a 4th option is a beautiful thing.

Chandler is a garbage man on offense and simply has to concentrate on doing what he also does best. Defend.

We built our bench realistically we believe. We took chemistry and...well reality into account. My bench is guys that a) would be willing to come off the bench without complaining and playing within themselves and b) defensive minded, Rasho/Hayes/Hill/Barnes/Udrih (he may be the exception but he is a damn good player just overpaid)/Alston are all good defenders that won’t need many touches on offense. We believe our bench will get overlooked and that’s a shame.

Guards

Parker/JJ

Parkers driving and kicking beside Johnsons shooting and playmaking is a perfect fit. Johnson can relive Parker of some of his PG duties which is nice, and both are good passers which is important on this team. Having 3 guys that can create their own shot is valuable and opposing perimeter defenders are going to have a hard time staying out of foul trouble.

Forwards

Melo/Garnett

Melo is our closer, our marquee guy. He is an MVP candidate and is currently playing better then Wade and on par with LBJ and Kobe. This isn’t an exaggeration he is a man on a mission and it’s finally “clicked”. He is amazing and I was trying to get him all game, since he was in DEN. I saw him go to TOR, MIA, MEM, and OKL and when I had the opportunity I got him. Paid a high price but I think it was worth it. He is very good off the ball and a much improved defender but we all know his best asset is that he is probably the best pure scorer (besides LBJ) in the league. He can do anything; in our offense we will feature him in the post quite a bit we and you can’t really double him since we have a franchise player as our 2nd option in Joe Johnson and Parker will kill you if you don’t pay attention to him. A big reason we love KG is his passing and the fact that he can space the floor for us. He will be used similarly to how he is in BOS, and can save a lot of energy for defensive. You’ll see a lot of KG with the ball and passing it to a cutting Parker for the foul or the basket.

Center

Chandler will receive a few alleys but mostly he is there to get offensive rebound and get us 2nd and 3rd possessions. He will get his points off of put backs, and won’t have many plays called for him which we feel he will be fine with, he knows his role is as defensive anchor. Combined with KG he is one half of the best defensive frontcourt in the league.

Closing Statement

We feel we are the best team in the league and have one of the brightest future in the league, though there are many other teams in the running for that. We felt we did a good job overall and though payroll is high we feel that the revenue Melo in paticualar brings, but also Parker, JJ and KG will help offset some of those costs. We started at 89 mill.

The real life Wolves still had ways to go before becoming a young good team like Portland. I trade Flynn and Love to get Fernandez and Oden both upgrades in my opinion. I don't think Love and Jefferson works and a defensive center is really a better fit next to Jefferson as Jefferson has some issues regarding defense. Now I have a defensive beast in the paint to anchor my defense. I also liked Rubio over Flynn as Flynn was not known for his defense while Rubio is. I feel like Rubio plays better defense and is more a of playmaker than Flynn so it was easy to trade Flynn to pick up a much needed scoring swingman. Rudy is a stud and will finally get starters minutes and it helps that him and Rubio are Spanish so we have the Spanish connection here. Rudy gives me much needed scoring and athletism at the SG position. I grab McGrady and overpaid for him because I needed a veteran presence on this young team. I feel McGrady will be rejuvanted because he has a chance to fix his career and with a young up and coming team he could can lead the Wolves to the playoffs and will have a chance to finally get out of the first round. I feel he can also be a mentor to Evan Turner who is a stud with great versatility waiting in the wings with McGrady declines. I feel Turner was a steal at #7 and he will be one of the best players to come out of the draft. I think he can be a Joe Johnson type player for us. We were able to pick up young players like Julian Wright and JJ Redick who I'm really high on. Julian will fit very fell in our uptempo system and Redick gives us a shooter off the bench and has a winner's mentality. I also have nice youth in DeMarcus Cousins (who I think was a steal at #22) he could potentially be another great big man for us and leaves us options to trade one of the 3 bigs in the future. Budinger is a scorer and can instantly light it up and fits very well in our uptempo system as well the same goes for Ellington.

Young Talent Core: With a future core of Rubio - Fernandez - Turner - Jefferson - Oden, this team can stay together for years to come and become a potential dynasty. We have the playmaker, the scoring SG, the all around SF, the post player and the defensive anchor down low. I think this team is a perfect mix and could potentially play uptempo with the type of players we have. We also have a very talented young bench with high upside players like DeMarcus Cousins, Chase Budinger, Wayne Ellington, Alexis Ajinca. The future is very bright for the Wolves. With all these young talent stocked up, we can potentially trade some of it in the future to pick up stars as we will be trading quantity for quality.

Overall I think this team has a very good young core without having the fear of salary cap implications as my salary situation is very well in hand. We are loaded with young talent that can be traded for upgrades to our lineup. I think this team can win 42+ games this year and have a chance to finally get back into the playoffs for many years to come.

To start the game I had a lot of veteran players that made up the core of a defensive oriented team that to this point has still proven nothing. I decided that it was time to completely clear out all of the bad contracts that I had and start with a new youth movement in Charlotte. I was able to clear over fourty million in cap space. While adding pieces that I thought would either be able to net me some nice young pieces, or that were good young players themselves. The only young players that I “sacrificed” in this movement were Gerald Henderson (4p 1r .3a) and Alexis Ajinca (2p 1r 0a) . In this first year I landed DaeQuann Cook (6p 3r 1a), Nenad Kristic, DJ White (5p 2r 1a), Thabo Sefelosha (7p 6r 2a), and a 2010 Memphis 1st.

We are committed to building a winner, and I think that Thabo can be a big part of that. The Bobcats will have about 35 million in cap space, after we factor in cap holds and signing our draft picks (1 pick will be high lottery, and one mid-first round). We will use that to sign at least one big-name free agent, and very likely two. Next year my depth chart may very well be the best in basketball, and one of the youngest. Thabo will have the chance to play under a coach (Larry Brown) who has turned players similar to him into great assets, guys who make 8 to 10 million a year; a prime example of this is Tayshuan Prince...

Commentary
I decided to go for 2010 in this game after working towards other methods in previous games. While that didn't work out with adding a big name free agent, I am still pleased with the team I put together.

Trading- I don't make a lot of trades, mostly I try to make smart trades. I believe that each team in the NBA already has players and they just need to make a few moves to get to the point where they can compete. With that said, I traded the best player on the team because the value was too good to pass up, and I saw the value in getting Phoenix's pick if I wanted to build a young team. When Phoenix decided to go into rebuild, I was at a strong position knowing that trading his big players for younger guys would have given me a very good pick, but I felt like it was closer to my goals of getting a superstar like Amare instead. Finally, to get max cap space, I knew I wasn't going to be keeping Alston, so getting a second for him was good value to me. That leads me into my next section, drafting.

Drafting- There was one player I really wanted who I felt a lot of guys would sleep on. His name is Xavier Henry. By the time the draft rolls around next year, I fully believe he will be a top 10 pick, even a top 5 pick. Since most people don't know of the young guys, Henry could turn out to be a Michael Redd type player (big time shooter), but has been playing sold D thus far. Next, I drafted a guy who I thought could be a great role player for the team- Stanley Robinson. I thought he was a great value at pick 27, and has been climbing up the mock drafts (currently is the 15th pick for DE). Finally, I went more with need in picking Sherron Collins, as I didn't have a backup PG. He's a guy that also adds outside shooting to the team. His time in college gives me faith that he can step right in and be a sold player for my team. I thought I had one of the best drafts of any GM here.

Overall- My team is in the middle of growing and getting to the level to really be a threat for a championship. I still have capspace for 2011 when their will be an opportunity to add a big name guy, but I have decided that it's not smart to rely solely on that. My team has one of the best big men combinations in Brook Lopez and Amare, a growing young PG in Westbrook, and CDR, who has shown he can be a good starter in this league. I will be relying on internal growth of my young guys, the possibility of signing a free agent or two, and as always, a good well timed trade to get my team to the next level.

On a more personal note, thanks to Roc for running this. I know it's a large time commitment, so kudos to you. Good job to whoever set up the chat, that was a great idea, in my opinion. It was fun talking to some of the other GM's about the game and whatever else was going on. Congrats to LA's GM, who is expecting a kid. Dallas, nice job letting me bust his balls (but knew I was kidding around); Vege- I'll just say you definitely made the game more entertaining. It was a fun game once again. I'm looking forward to the next.

Begining Statement:
When i got the Lakers as GM, I knew exactly what i wanted to do. That was create a two way TEAM (great on offense as a unite, great at defense as a unite) with alot of depth. I wanted "win now players" and alot of them. I wanted to be able to go at least 10 deep, and build around Kobe/Artest/Gasol as a trio, with an upgraded pointguard. When the oppurtuinity arose where i could get Duncan, i had to take it. It was a steep price, but with Kobe and Duncan as a pair, i feel i have the best duo in the league along with 3 great role players rounding out my starting 5. Along with a great bench where we have the ability to go 10 deep, with out missing a beat on offense or defense. Now, take a second and honestly picture this team on a night to night basis...Its kinda scary how this team can lock opposing teams down, and put up points in a hurry, this a TRUE TEAM, and a damn good one.

STARTERS:


PG: Kirk Hinrich.
-Started with Derek Fisher as my starting point, oddly enough, he is my back up point, so clearly we reached our goal as we wanted to upgrade this position. Captian Kirk is the perfect triangle point guard both offensively and defensively. He can knock down three's which is a crucial part in the triangle offense, He can also lock down his man, which is also a crucial part of being a triangle point. He keeps pressure of Kobe with his ability to handle the ball, and his ability to play great man to man defense on the opposing team's point guard. He is the perfect player for this spot. We love that he is still young and yet a true veteran with a great mind set for the game.

SG: Kobe Bryant.
-We all know what Kobe can do. With and upgraded point guard in Kirk, and a lock down small forward in Ron Artest, we feel Kobe will be even better, but his career will also last longer, giving him all the options in the world. He wont have to guard the best perimeter player anymore, which will keep him fresher for the playoffs, and for his career. Kobe is Kobe, the best shooting guard in the League, the best finisher in the League, and the best player in the League.

SF: Ron Artest.
-The ultimate role player. He will guard and lock down on the best perimeter player the opposing team puts on the floor. Wether its a guard like Joe Johnson or Dwayne Wade, or a bigger forward like Carmelo Anthony or Dirk Nowitzki, Ron Artest will slow them down, forcing them into tough shots, while playing physical defense. He will get steals and blocks and will always get on the floor for a loose ball. With Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant on the team, he will keep his focus on winning, just like he is doing with the current Los Angeles Lakers.

PF: Tim Duncan.
-Started with Pau Gasol, Duncan is clearly and upgrade. The best number 2 option probably ever, and surely in this game. Duncan is the perfect compliment to Kobe. He is a great high post and willing passer which is also crucial for bigs in the triangle offense. He is a 20 point 10 rebound threat night in and night out, and will play great defense. He will be single covered most nights, where he will dominate on the inside. With Okur as the big man playing with Duncan, he will have the lane to himself to work. Okur will move his big to the perimeter. I can not stress enough how good honestly Kobe and Duncan would be on the same team. Its rediculous just to picture it.

-Started with Andrew Bynum, I know what your thinking, Bynum is better, Bynum is younger, Bynum is a better defender...blah, blah, blah. I wanted the perfect compliment to Duncan. Okur is just that. Bynum would be clogging the lane with Duncan who is a much better scorer and rebounder. Okur keeps the lane unclogged by keeping his man out on the three point line where Okur is deadly from. Okur will get plenty of wide open three's where he will punish most big men. This is how Okur is good at defense, because he keeps his man out of the paint, which stops the other teams bigs from blocking shots and rebounding. Also, with my starting line up, my 1 through 4 are clamp down defenders, so we feel that we will be able to compensate for the lack of one on one defense that Okur lacks.

That rounds out our starting 5....We will punish teams on defense, we will punish teams on offense.

-Instead of going to the streaky/unexpirienced Farmar, we will bring in Fisher as our back up pointguard. This is clearly an upgrade of Farmar as Fisher is the real starter on the Lakers. He knows the triangle inside and out, and is the perfect back up in this system. He's a Laker through and through and bleeds purple and gold. He obviously works well with Kobe and Phil. We loved him as our starter, but love him even more as our back up.

SG: Delonte West.
-Started with Sasha Vujacic. CLEARLY and upgrade. Does what Sasha does but better. Better shooter, better passer, way better defender. We had oppurtuinities galore to move him, and you ask why i bring this up? Recently he has had some off the court issues with personal health/bad choices. But we feel as an organization (just like the real life Cleveland Cavaliers) that he can be the player he was just one year ago, again this season. He is the perfect combo guard for the triangle. He can play the one or the two with the ability to guard both positions well. He is a knock down shooter also. With Kobe/Phil/Duncan/FIsher helping this kid along mentally and as a player he WILL shine on this team in this role.

SF: Corey Maggette.
-Started with Luke Walton/Shannon Brown. This to me is an upgrade. The RL Lakers lacked a guy that can flat out score at will when needed other then Kobe. Luke Walton was dead weight, and Shannon Brown at this stage in his career is way to streaky. Every good/great team has that guy of the bench which is INSTANT offense. (Terry for the Mavs, Ginobili for the Spurs, Barbosa for the Suns). Maggette with THRIVE in this role. His ability to get to the free throw line is unmatched in the league. He is a big and physical guard/forward which is hard to guard. We love him as our instant offense 6th man.

PF: Antonio Mcdeyss.
-Started with Lamar Odom. Odom is one of the most versitile players in the league. He can play multiple positions on the floor and is a winner. But we felt that an upgrade all around to our bench is better then Odom/Brown and a bunch of deadweight/worthless players. Mcdeyss is a real rebounding big, who is unselfish and wants to win. He can score from the low post which is unheard of from most team's bench's. He fits our "win now" mold to a T, and works well with Duncan. He has the ability to play Center and Powerforward, and also can start when called upon.

Cc: Zydrunas Ilgauskus
-Started with DJ Mbenga/Josh Powell. Is this an upgrade if i've ever seen one. Instead of comming off the bench with inexperienced bigs we started with, will be using Big Z as our back up center. Like Deyss, he also has the ability to start when the match up calls for it. This guy just wants to win. He boards and scores excellent still even with his age. Hopefully with this team he has a chance to finally win a ring before he retires. We feel even at his age, he can still contribute with limited minutes due to his knowledge and skill for the game.

ADDITIONAL PLAYERS:
PG: Jamal Tinsley.
-He would fill in at PG very nicely with our team. He wants to prove himself again and with this team he would have the oppurtunity to do so. Good third string PG and good passer, on a minimum deal.

SG/SF/PF: Jamario Moon.
- Perfect 12th man on any team. Good teammate. Just loves the game. He can guard and play multiple positions, and can excite the crowd with some sick dunks.

OVERALL:
I feel i made this team a clear cut championship contender in our real gm league. This team would have a 2-3 year window to win rings. Sure, i added 8 million dollars in salary, which isnt alot at all, but it put my total up to 99 million. Think about this before you say thats unrealistic.... I started with almost 92 million is salary. Most team's who got "better" added ALOT more salary then 8 million dollars. Ive also added an article about Jerry Buss. This guy will spend whatever it takes to keep winning. He would spend this amount to assemble this team that i present you knowing how special the team is. I dont want here about salary being a factor to my team, because it is realistic. I moved Deadweight like Luke Walton/Sasha Vujacic and i got rid of worthless players like Adam Morrison/Jordan Farmar. I feel i have clearly upgraded just about every aspect in The Lakers.

CLOSING:
I have the best guard in the league on my team (He is also the best player). I have the best big man in the league. They are 2 of the top 10 player in the league today, and 2 of the top 10 players of ALL TIME. They are the best duo in the league now, and of ALL TIME. Surrounding them with some of the best role players around who are all winners is something that is hard to do. This is a true team, well balanced, well coached, and well built. Great on O, great on D. I've made a good team better. Vote Lakers.

I wanted to define the Nuggets as a well balanced team, complete with players who fit well together, can help each other out, and win by playing sound basketball. I also wanted to put together a team that could compete in the here and now and also had the pieces to effectively transition into the next generation. Trading away Carmelo Anthony was a difficult choice, but I honestly feel that the balance it gives my team makes it well worth it.

Game plan for the present:

Billups is the leader of this team, and still brings the same defensive intensity, prototypical point guard skills, and ice cold clutch ability that he had when he led a team of similar balance (with no clear superstar) to the finals.

Overall, we feel our team has enough scoring, passing, and defense to remain very competitive out West and be one of the best teams in a conference full of strong teams. We have a strong identity marked by balance on both ends of the floor and fundamentally sound and efficient play.

Comparison to previous team:

When comparing the current team with the one I begun with, a couple of things stand out.

Obviously, Billups is now the undisputed leader of the team, a job he has done before. He will be more than equal to the task of leading the team to the promised land. Though he no longer has Carmelo by his side, he does have two things he didn't have before:

1) A young stud shooting guard who is already one of the most effective scorers around, and one who complements Billups perfectly to form a backcourt that is easily one of the best units in the league, complete with young players who can step in off the bench. Martin will be the main scorer on the team, and with Billups and the helm and an excellent supporting cast around them, we feel this offense can be more effective than the one the Nuggets had previously. I view this backcourt as a better version of the 2004 Palace guards.

2) A younger and more dynamic (and less injury prone) front court, complete with the defensively strong and effectively passing Boris Diaw and the rapidly developing Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani can use his floor spreading ability to limit opposing teams' abilities to grab defensive rebounds. The balanced offense we have should give both of these players optimal chances to excel and be at their best.

3) While Carmelo is no longer on the team, we have a situation where he have a great amount of offensive talent at the other 4 positions, including another star scorer in Martin. As such, the rock solid all round play of Richard Jefferson (strong offensive supporting player, and a reasonably effective defensive player when need be) should serve as a more than effective replacement and rounds out the starting lineup nicely. He also adds to the playoff experience of this team.

In the long term, Kevin Martin and Andrea Bargnani are both locked into long and financially viable contracts that carry them through much of their primes. Both have shown incredible ability at a young age and having them makes us feel better about their future. We also have 27 year old Boris Diaw, who's versatility makes him an excellent piece to have. While he will be seeing most of his minutes at the 4 currently, he may switch to the small forward spot or even see time at guard as the needs of the team evolve. We also have Thabeet, who will be in a low pressure bench situation in his first year (though we intend to develop him and get him minutes), but in time may transition into a bigger starting role given the right development. We also have two young guards off the bench who will be either trade chips or long term rotation pieces. Billups is our only rotation player older than 29, and he has a skill set that suggests he will age very well.

Financially, the Nuggets will be in the luxury tax this season, but that was already in the cards even before I began with this team. Salary is up 4 million this year from what it was originally slated to be, but we also have our highest paid player, Richard Jefferson, coming off the books in the coming year, which will, for the next season, put us well under the threshold. We will either let him go and rework our rotation accordingly, (though we like him, he's the 5th most important member of our starting lineup at the highest paid), or negotiate a smaller deal with him that allows us to remain under the tax.

OVERALL:

We have a team that is not only well balanced and very competitive now but is perfectly set to transition into a new era and adapt. A truly effective mix of experience and youth.

Improvements
I believe this team went from a soft, dysfunctional, offensive minded team to a champion. I've added a second superstar in Dwyane Wade to team with Chris Bosh and a bunch of solid role players that all have particular roles.

Jason Terry gives the team a deadlier scorer at the PG position that has been in tough situations, he's simply stronger mentally than Jose Calderon who is more prone to the lapse on either end of the floor.

At SG coming in, the team had a nice young prospect in DeMar DeRozan, but he's no comparison to Dwyane Wade.

At SF, I went with a different look; Lamar Odom/Mickael Pietrus combine to be a better fit for this roster. Just ask Magic/Laker fans how vital these two are to the success of two very good organizations.

At PF I've added a young hustle player in DeJuan Blair that is simply killing it off the bench.

At Center, I had enough of the soft jumpshooter in Andrea Bargnani that would have some awesome offensive nights and show defensive flashes but was never consistent. I replaced him with another center that has flashes but is very inconsistent in Dalembert. But I believe Daly will thrive being around such great talent and being in Canada in a contract year is a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills. For him it all comes down to pride, being at home and with a potentially huge year for his career, I believe he will battle Camby for minutes. And of course, I also added Marcus Camby, who is on fire for the Los Angeles Clippers. It took a lot of years to get a deal done, but I love his game and he's the center this team needs to succeed.

I think it's clear I got better, but it did come as a price as I increased the payroll significantly. That's the price to be successful though and I believe we're the best team in the conference. We're also well prepared for the present AND the future unlike many teams.

Goals
I achieved what I set out to do. I wanted to improve the image of this club and get them thinking NBA Championship, not scraping into the playoffs. I desperately wanted Chris Bosh to stay with this roster and it took acquiring Dwyane Wade for him to do so. I've been aggressive wheeling and dealing since day 1, getting K-Mart, moving him for Melo, then moving Melo for Wade (of course all those deals had more parts to them). For the most part, players have been very responsive to the environment created here, with Camby and Eddie House choosing Toronto over many possible suitors. We're also still a very young team that can have the same core for years to come, with guys like Donte Greene/DeJuan Blair/Daniel Gibson becoming big parts of our future (obviously beside Bosh/Wade/Odom). The identity has changed of the roster; we're tougher, a much better rebounding team, a much better defensive team and a more athletic team. I'm very confident as the General Manager we have a recipe for success here.

Win-Now Effort
In terms of the Raptors' ability to win an NBA Championship this season, I believe we're in a very strong position. In the Eastern Conference, we believe we have the depth and talent to beat the New Yorks/Orlandos of the conference. Looking at Orlando, guys like Allen/Kidd may be former All-Stars and great talents, but they'll have their hands full guarding guys like Dwyane Wade. New York has ridiculous amounts of talent with Gasol/LeBron/Deron, but the bench is paper thin. We also believe that we match up well with Western Conference teams and whether we're looking at LA/San Antonio or even someone else, we've got the talent to come out on top. Anything less than an NBA Championship will be a disappointment, anything less than a Conference Championship/trip to the Finals will be devastating. We're absolutely driven to ensure we come out of this season with a Title.

Gameplan
Offensively, I'm very confident in having Dwyane Wade as the major playmaker/shot-caller for this offense. He's a very aggressive offensive player, who is incredible at getting into the lane and creating problems. Similarly, Chris Bosh has the ability to do major damage if left open for the jumper or driving the lane hard. With capable shooters like Eddie House, Daniel Gibson, Mickael Pietrus, Lamar Odom, Jason Terry, the kick-out is a strong possibility. But the majority of our points will be created by relentless offensive pressure near the basket. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are two of the best at getting to the FT line in the league (Wade is #1, Bosh is #3), so teams will have their hands full trying to stop either of these from getting into the paint. If teams choose to double either, they're in major trouble. We're confident in getting a lot of buckets in transition, but the half-court is key to success in the playoffs and we believe we can play both styles very effectively. We have so many offensive creators teams really will have a tough time stopping penetration against us. Add in the fact that both Dwyane Wade/Chris Bosh can create off isolation for themselves and we're nearly impossible to stop.

Defensively, we're planning to keep it simple. We've got the talent to play man-to-man defense and have solid help defense if needed. Marcus Camby is an excellent anchor defensively and with Wade/Terry in the backcourt we do have very aggressive defenders that like to create turnovers. The more turnovers we create, the more we get out and run. The more we run, the more transition buckets/free throws we get. It's quite simple and with our killer instinct, we know our defense will lead to easy offense. Pietrus is an excellent perimeter defender and we wanted to get him to start games for that reason, as well as Odom being more suited to a 6th man role. We've all seen Chris Bosh's best defensively at the Olympics, and with eased offensive pressure I want to get that out of Chris Bosh. Guys like Dalembert, Pietrus, Odom are invaluable when we get to the playoffs with their defensive ability, whether it be Pietrus's quickness, Odom's length or Dalembert's shotblocking ability. With experienced technical defenders and guys that can be extremely aggressive on the perimeter and inside (so much of defense is just effort/energy), we aim to be the top defensive team in the league.

In Summary
The Raptors have improved as much as any team in this league. We have the talent to win an NBA Championship now and the youth (incl. Bosh/Wade) to win in the future.

My team compared to Real Life team i took over.....

When i took over this Dallas Mavericks team My goal to build a better surrounding cast around Dirk that fit his skills. My payroll may be a bit big but with the actual owner i have im sure he's willing to pay that to stay as one of the top teams. I never traded my star player because the value just wasn't there. My bench was pretty week besides Terry. Now i have Felton, Nocioni, Azebuike, Bell, Smith, and Miller. I wanted to have a deep team so my older players could rest and survive the season without being fatigued by the end of it.

Kidd VS Calderon
I loved Kidd as my starting PG but i felt his legs were going away i loved his defense but i needed to get a little younger for certain reasons. Calderon can run a team pretty well and you can't leave him alone on the floor because he's one of the top shooters in the game. He has a consistent stroke from 3 which could help out whenever Dirk gets doubled.

Dampier VS OKafor
This was one of my focal points when i started the game. To get a legit young, starting center next to Dirk. Okafor is also a pretty good defender in the post and doesn't have the brick hands that Dampier does. He actually has some moves on the offensive side so if they start double teaming him you leave Dirk open and he's automatic from anywhere on the floor if he's open.

Nocioni is definately the better player here he has the toughness, and can be clutch in the last minutes of a game could also backup Dikr if needed.

Terry VS Azubuike
Terry probably wins here but Azubuike is a good enough player that he can hold his own and also is not a defensive liability on the other end like Terry is. Azebuike is also a pretty tough athletic player who can hit the jumper.

Felton VS Barea
Felton definately wins here because Barea is a huge defensive liability. On offense he can score but so can Felton. Felton is built and doesn't have the size disadvantage that Barea does against the other PG's in the league.

Overall:
I feel i made this team be able to contend for a longer period of time, then they were with Kidd and Dampier. I made the team younger and surrounded it with talent that fits Dirk's skills. Sure i added some money but im sure Cuban would pay the money to have a good starting lineup and have a bench this deep. I moved a bad contract in Carroll and managed to make it a legit backup SF like Nocioni. The rest of my bench has improved way more than real life. I upgraded everything on my team except maybe the defense at the PG position which i feel Felton, and Beaubois can do a good job of.


Closing:
I have the BEST PF in the league(lol LAL said Duncan was the best in the league right now) I feel my starting lineup can hold and sustain a long playoff run with the bench i've provided to them. Great on Offense, Great Defense with marion guarding SF's, Howard guarding the SG's, Dirk's defense improving he's a capable defender now a days, Okafor can come in for the blocks and hold his own against the other centers in the league. My backup PG's will handle the task of defending the other teams PG's. Great so Vote for the Mavs thanks for your time.
This game was good it was my first and i know i probably made some bad moves in the beginning and i feel i managed to make up for it in the end. Anyways it was good and hope to play another one later on.

GAME PLAN

Offensively, we have an extremely athletic young group of players in Rose, Smith, Gay, and Gortat. We will be a fast paced offensive team, like the real Warriors, but we will run with purpose, and we have guys who know their roles, as opposed to a bunch of scorers with no real playmaker or interior defender. I have great rebounding with Lee and Gortat in the frontcourt, and said rebounding will help Rose push the ball, and with Smith and Gay running the lanes, I believe our offense will be very effective and dangerous. Jamal Crawford can give us a similar scoring punch to what he is doing now with Atlanta, running the point when Rose is out. The rest of the guys are mostly role players and stop gaps, but they can all give solid minutes and can step up if the injury bug strikes. Defensively, we have Gortat anchoring the paint, and when given minutes he's shown the capacity to do an extremely good job of that. Our perimeter defense is lacking, but the guys are so young that with their athletic gifts I see no reason why they can't develop into solid defenders in a couple years, which is when I'm trying to win anyway.

Rose - Future star of the team. Chicago has no shooters or athletic finishers around him, while I have that in spades. With this team, he can choose his moments, but I will make it very clear that he is our franchise player and will need to develop into the elite player we all know he can be if we want to compete for a championship

Smith/Crawford - Similar players, though Smith is younger and more athletic. Crawford will have more of a playmaking role, coming off the bench behind Derrick and J.R as well as playing the point on occasion, but he has shown the ability to do so during his last tenure here as well as in Atlanta. Smith can also play some point, so the two will share that responsibility when they are on the court together.

Gay - Main scoring option. Rose is our franchise player, but Gay is a more natural scorer, and has been playing great this year despite being surrounded by mismatched talent in Memphis. In this fast paced offense, I believe he can tap into his immense potential even more and become a 20-25 point scorer on good percentages, especially with Rose setting him up on the break for easy buckets.

Lee - Rebounder and floor spacer. Lee is what he is at this point, an elite rebounder with a nice mid-range shot, perfect for starting fast breaks and spacing the floor for penetration. He'll get some looks in the half court too, but mostly will score off assisted baskets and hustle plays. We already know he can succeed in a fast paced offense, and his role here will be the same.

Gortat - Defensive anchor. Though some believe Gortat is overpaid, I think starting centers are nearly impossible to find for this price. Gortat has put up double doubles with great defense anytime he starts in place of Howard, and I'll take that for 7 million from my starting center anyday.

GM JOURNEY

The Warriors have always been a dysfunctional team, and I knew I had to choose a direction for them. Either win now, and trade their potential for talent, or blow it up and move guys like Jackson and Maggette. I chose the latter option, and managed to move SJax's and Maggette's big contracts for younger talent. I ended up trading everyone on the team, totally reshuffling the roster because I really wanted to construct a team properly, and focus on more than just scoring. I also took on some seemingly bad contracts like Vlad Rad and Jaric, but I made sure that they all expired in 2011, giving me almost 20 million in cap room to play with at the end of next year. Now this team has a true stud in Rose, solid wingmen in Smith and Gay, and good defense and rebounding from Lee and Gortat. The team is also extremely young, and probably won't be at their best for another 3 years, which is when many of the current powerhouses will start declining.

Overall, I believe I've constructed an elite young team, who can play hard now as well as win big later. I also have 3 1st rounders and 25 million in expiring contracts to make a big splash and grab another star to pair with Rose and Gay. With my collection of young talent and roster flexibility, I think I've done a better job with this team than Warriors management ever could.

Building this team around defense and athleticism. Brandon Jennings is my superstar in the making. I knew I would have to surround him with good shooters, but I also wanted people who can if needed create their own shot. Also have great hustle on this team.

Jennings has the ball in his hand trying to score first and finding open teammates second. Ariza is a very good shooter at this point in his career and also can go to the rack and get some free throws. Lee is a developing player who has mad hops and can hit the open mid-ranger...also moves the ball so when it's not in Jennings hands it'll be moving (same with Ariza). Ilyasova is a very good jump shooting scorer as is my first pick in the 2010 draft...Ilysova really takes the pressure off the ultra long and ultra foreign Motiejunas. Blatche can have the offense run through him when Jennings turns it over too much. Mbah A Moute can guard about anyone and so can Ariza. Lee and Jennings have good ball pressure. I wish I coulda found better defending big men, but they are both alright.

Total salary this year is $47,216,959. Most of that is in expiring contracts. As you can tell cause my salary goes down to $27,169,584 which is spent mostly on my core which is a wonderful luxury for me. I'd look to re-sign Mbah A Moute and Ilyasova or trade them for something.

Going to build thru the draft so I didn't trade any pieces there, gained 2011 Orlando 2nd

Direction:When I got the Suns roster I knew that we didn't have the pieces to make a run at a championship or build the team into championship contender with the current core. It seemed obvious at that point the best option was to blow it all up and turn the old useful now assets into a young core with potential. First thing I had to do was acquire our pick back since it had been traded off a long time ago and Im not gonna rebuild without my own pick. The Amare trade that got me that pick was apparently controversial but considering it eventually netted me John Wall I definitely don't regret it. I acquired a bunch of young guys at the expense of the players that would win me games now but id rather walk away with a great young core than get knocked out in the first round for the next couple years and then have to rebuild.

Team: The team I currently have is perfectly built to run and gun. We're likely the most athletic starting lineup in the league and we have Wall running the point for us. Between the guards Wall/Warren/Teague we'll have plenty of creation from our backcourt at all points in the game. Getting Wall out in transition a lot will certainly get us a lot of easy points. Williams, Clark, and Hill can run the court better than most other players at their respective positions. Williams also has some latent upside which i think would be unlocked with the Suns. He currently plays in an iso-heavy offense thats one of the slower teams in the league. Moving him to a fast paced team that emphasizes passing a lot more will allow him to use his finishing ability a lot more instead of standing behind the arc watching other players work.

Future: All of our players are very very young and are all high upside guys. On top of that all of the bad contracts we currently have are expiring. Since we have 3 first rounddraft picks in the 2011 draft and 30 million in capspace after all options are picked up in 2011 the Suns have a ridiculous amount of flexibility. The roster is pretty much full but some players dont live up to potential. If for instance Wall becomes a useless bust we've got 30 million and 3 draft picks (and 3 other young guards) who can fill the hole for us. We arent trapped and are set up to easily correct any mistakes in the roster. That said i expect nearly all of our young guys to at least develop into rotation players and quite a few are likely to turn into stars.

Description: The offense is built around the three superstars, LeBron James, Deron Williams, and Pau Gasol. In D'Antoni's offense, we look to maximize our offensive possessions with flawless execution in the half court, and the finishing ability of all our player either from the perimeter or the post in the fastbreak. Gasol is the perfect complimentary player to LeBron, and with Deron aiding him from the PG position with his all rounded game, the Knicks easily possess the most lethal trio in the game. Arguably, all three players are on the list of the top ten players in the game, at the worst, top 15, with the best player in the league.

Mason might be the weak link in our lineup on the outside, but when you have stars of the caliber the Knicks do, we view Mason as an asset, not a liability. Anyone who plays at this spot, whether it'd be Roger Mason, or Dwyane Wade, would be expected to be a player that can shoot the three lights out from the kick-outs LeBron, Gasol and Deron would garner. Mason started the season slow, but has picked it up as of late, and is proven he's become one of the best shooters in the league. His role is simple, shoot the ball from the perimeter, something Mason does as well as any player in the league.

Varejao may be annoying, but we like his role too with the team as constructed. He's played with LeBron his entire career, a terrific rotational defender, an aggressive rebounder, and efficient offensively. His stats adjusted to PER36 is nearly 9 points, and 10 boards. The best part is, he doesn't demand shots, nor needs the ball to be affective on the floor. He'll be able to do what he does best, and that's rebound, play defense... and flop.

Description: By definition, a bench should either bring nice contrast, or similar characteristics as your starters to not miss a beat. We didn't have time to truly bolster our bench, but we're not completely dissatisfied with what has come to fruition. Ridnour is showing this season, that off the bench, he's one of the better PG's in the league (in a bench role). He's shooting well from the field, dishing out the assists, and he and Jennings, with Bogut are the main reasons why the Bucks over .500. Hughes has played with LeBron before, and made the finals with him, a player that can do a little bit of everything, his strength being on the defensive end. Butler provides another shooter, similar to the role Mason has in the starting lineup.

Upfront, Smith is another one of those unhearalded PF's that brings a fountain of energy when inserted into the game. To a lesser extent than the likes of Landry, or Millsap, Smith can rebound the ball, and score with great efficiency. Best of all he's proven he can come off the bench, and produce at the same level. He did it last season with the Wolves, and doing it this season with the Clippers. Last, but not least, is this seasons version of the "ageless," one in Ben Wallace. Averaging double digit rebounds, and over a block and steal per game in under 30 minutes, Wallace is showing flashbacks to his more youthful days as one of the better C's in the entire NBA (in the last 2 games, he's had 34 rebounds!).

ORIGINAL GOALS and WHAT TRANSPIRED

When first given the position of the Knicks GM, the goal from the outlook was hazy. I was deciding on whether I wanted to rebuild or whether I wanted to go for the gold now. Didn't really have the pieces for both, and I knew I wouldn't attract a max FA if I kept intact the same team the Knicks currently have. I didn't own my own pick, so there was no point to remain as a team under .500, so the goal was decided for at least the 2009/2010 season to improve on talent while remaining somewhat cap friendly, but most importantly make the playoffs and rid of some of the dead weight contracts, such as Curry or Jeffries.

We were not only able to shed those contracts, and get UNDER the luxury tax for the season but in the team rankings which was done earlier in the game, the Knicks made the playoffs as one of the final seeds. So our goal there was achieved. We had originally given up on the idea of going after a max player, because of some of the additions, Amare to the Nets, or the Bosh/Wade pairing in Toronto, it seemed like too much a gamble to put all my chips in at just a chance at acquiring LeBron. I was content with that decision until I traded for Pau Gasol using Emeka Okafor. I knew once I had that legit star with a market like New York, my chances for LeBron greatly increased. I shedded some more contracts, and managed to get the max capspace needed to sign one player, just days before free agency began.

And ultimately LeBron chose the Knicks. The goal was to sign him once we made the Gasol trade, and that was successfully achieved too. Now the goal was to build a team that could compete for the championship, and most importantly grow into that team, that would be the consensus favorites every year. The Knicks picked up FA's whom we liked on the cheaper end, and acquired Deron Williams in a trade for Derrick Rose and JR Smith, whom we had acquired from other prior trades (see transactions below for further clarification). It was tough for us to make that move, but felt Deron's fit with LeBron was too great to pass up, especially with Rose's lack of fit to say the least next to LeBron.

Reflecting back, I feel I've done enough to warrant a higher place finish considering the pieces I had to work with, but understand I could have done better in terms of making the Knicks into a clear cut powerhouse. Wish there was 1-2 more weeks after FA, ha.

Direction from the beginning: I took over the team before the 2009-2010 season. I felt that NOH was a borderline playoff team with very little flexibility (currently 8-11, I may have been right) so I decided to blow up my team. I wanted to keep Chris Paul since he's the best PG in the league and a definite top 5 player. My goal was to get some young players next to Paul and get some cap space. My plan was to use the cap space on a top level free agent, with Paul and my young core, I thought I could bring a top tier free agent in (especially since rocdogg was fairly adamant about LBJ signing with Dwight Howard in Orlando last game for the next great duo; Paul would have formed that same duo with one of the top available free agents, but it wasn't meant to be).

Current Direction: My current team has the possibility of being a championship caliber team in a few years. I still have Chris Paul, several young players that can be developed, and the ability to offer a max contract in 1 of the next 2 offseasons.

My Team
PG: I have Chris Paul here. He is my team leader, and our offense is run through him. He will play at least 36 min a night and could average more. My backup is Kalin Lucas; I felt that he is an ideal backup for Paul, and I think he can come in and adequately manage the game when Paul needs a rest.
SG: I have Gerald Henderson starting. I really like Henderson, and I think he can develop into a shut-down defender and a 3 point specialist. Having a player that can do both of those will make my team that much more dynamic in the future. Dominic McGuire backs him up at SG, he's a cheap, young, decent backup that could step in and start if need be. I like Chris Wright as well, he'll likely end up in the D-League; but we think he may develop into an NBA player. Quentin Ross is a veteran presence.
SF: Danilo Gallinari has started to blossom into a very good player. He is still very young and is still adjusting to the North American style of basketball. Give him another year or two and he could be a beast. Joe Alexander backs him up; we will give Joe time to develop (unlike Milwaukee) and see if he can develop skill to go with his physical attributes. When Joe was drafted, he was picked that high mainly because of his potential and would need a few years to develop. We will give him the playing time and guidance so that he can develop. James Anderson is third on the depth chart, and just like Chris Wright, we feel he's good enough to make the NBA. He'll likely play quite a bit in the D-League as well this year.
PF: John Henson has a ton of talent and could end up being very good. We picked him thinking he's a boom or bust kind of pick; but if he develops as we expect him too, then that will go a long way to making us a championship caliber team. We also have Ryan Anderson and Taj Gibson as backup PF. They both have showed that they are capable of playing in the NBA. Also, they play very different games which could definitely help us match up against other teams.
C: Cole Aldrich will be a solid NBA player. He's the type of guy that will come in and be a consistent 17 and 10 kind of player. We feel Jordan will be a decent bench C that can come in and be a big body down low. Pops is an energy guy that will come in and do what is needed.

Improvements win-now: At first glance, it looks like I completely blew it apart, but I'd like to argue that my team isn't much worse then it is now. I still have Paul. Gallinari is not that much of a downgrade from West. I believe Aldrich can do a lot of what Okafor does. And the real life team has what else... a few over the hill players (I replaced them with younger players that are just as talented, if not more), and a few young players with some potential (I have that on my team too... just more of them)

Improvements for the future: Where to begin, I'm out of the luxury tax and I am actually quite a bit below the salary cap still. I have also brought in several young players to help build my team around Paul.

Goals
So i started out with one of the worse teams in the league and wanted to make them a contender. I built a great team (or what i thought was a great team for the first season of the game)

Kirk Hinrich/Raja Bell/Andre Iguodala/Emeka Okafor

what I believed to be a great defensive team with a capable scoring punch.

I had myself pegged as the 5-6th seed in the west. The i see the rankings of the draft and confirmed my stance that people are idiots when i was ranked as the 23rd worst team in the league.
Yes, 4 ppl were tied for that 7th pick and i won the lottery but that still would have only put me at 19th and still not a very good team.

after being pissed about that I decided that if people apparently only look at offense cause they are dumbasses then I will add some scoring to my starting lineup and bench.

Louis Williams/Andre Iguodala/Gerald Wallace/Jason Thompson/Brenden Haywood

with Ben Gordon as one of the best 6th men in the NBA.

Haywood is actually putting up better stats than Okafor this season so i see that as an upgrade and can anchor my defense.

my bench is quite balanced as well.

Ben Gordon will soak up most of the PG/SG minutes that are left over from Louis Williams and Andre Iguodala. Glen Davis will be my backup C and Hakim Warrick who is having a great year will be my backup PF.

Gameplay Style
We are going to be an absolute juggernaut in the run and gun system, Louis Williams has no problem scoring, same with Iggy and Wallace, Thompson fits in great with his athleticism and Haywood has been in a run and gun system since he entered the NBA, Washington has put up some crazy #s over the years.

on defense this team is a matchup nightmare, Iggy at SG while teams will try to make him shoot hes having one of his best shooting years ever, and putting up great #s. Williams has no problem shooting either, Thompson can knock down the 15 footer with ease so he opens up a bit more room in the middle.

I don't think any team is going to out rebound this one, Iggy, Wallace, Thompson, Haywood are all great re-bounders and on the offensive glass they are not going to be stopped.

the only way that this team can be stopped is by not letting them in to the middle, oh wait, i have Ben Gordon also, who can light it up from the outside with ease if I ever run into that problem, which I dont think I will.

This team is incredibly balanced and there is no way it should be ranked low this time around.

Future
I have not jeopardized this teams future in any way, still well under the luxury tax, and affordable for Sacramento. I have also managed to keep all my picks except for this years so that the future is not jeopardized. The team is quite young and have a lot of time to make things work.
