Rotation
My rotation is going to be almost entirely based on who the opponent is, but here's the rough outline regardless:
Artis Gilmore (32) - Jack Sikma (16)
Karl Malone (34) - Jack Sikma (14)
Vince Carter (28) - Eddie Jones (20)
Joe Dumars (32) - Dale Ellis (16)
Magic Johnson (34) - Mookie Blaylock (14)
Gameplan
This team is based on high efficiency, great rebounding from all positions and plenty of spacing, all keys to success in a league like this. Magic Johnson and Karl Malone stand out as the center pieces of the team, and any team with Magic always gives the defense fits in terms of who to put him on. He has the ability to post up any PG and drive by any wing or big. His playmaking is the spark that will make this team go offensively. Karl Malone is a beast pretty much everywhere on offense and his ability to hit the mid-range shot yet also bang in the post is why is his game is so versatile. He's arguably the best offensive PF to ever play the game, and him and Magic are a duo that any team in this league will have enormous amounts of trouble stopping. Offensively, I definitely want to operate at a quick pace, because teams will be forced to make faster decisions, leading to mismatch opportunities and easy buckets. Magic is the best passer of all time and he excels in the open floor, so scoring in transition is definitely a major part of our offense. Vince Carter and Joe Dumars add two more guys who are not afraid to have the ball in their hands and can space the floor, both being excellent from beyond the arc. Inside, Artis Gilmore is a ridiculously efficient big with a soft left-handed touch around the basket. Our starting lineup also features great athleticism which Magic can obviously take advantage of. Off the bench, all 4 of the players listed in the rotation are excellent shooters and solid defenders. Dominique adds some nice slashing/finishing ability and Grant is a very good finisher with solid athleticism. Our offense is definitely going to be tough to deal with.
On defense, I want to keep it extremely simple. We have the talent to get the job done defensively, so I need to let these guys go to work. Joe Dumars is the PERFECT fit with Magic Johnson defensively. He can take the pressure of Magic and guard the opposition's best guard. Magic can shift on the weaker offensive player, making his life much easier. Vince Carter always had the athleticism and ability to defend and he was a decent defender, but again I feel this team will bring out his best. He's going to have to play a huge role guarding some of the larger small forwards in the league and he's a major creator of turnovers. Karl Malone is an absolute dominating man defender and Gilmore is an elite help defender. In my opinion, Gilmore/Sikma have given me a very solid tandem at center that can help contain some of the better centers in the league. Defenders like Blaylock, Jones, Grant are all guys who could play situationally depending on the matchup.
Finally, this team has guys full of that pure determination to win. Karl Malone, Joe Dumars, Magic Johnson are all guys who have battled through a lot through their careers but remain some of the most respected players to ever play the game. That is the attitude of winners and it's something I believe will give me a competitive edge.
