This topic sucks and proves you guys get way too hung up over statistics.

Based on the statistics he showed, he was! Damn, stop the hate, please! He's a helluva guard and he does things I've never seen a point do.... quit hating so damn hard! Try watching some bball for a change to form your conclusions!

Ok, hear me out on this, because it's a bit radical, but if you add points+rebounds+assists+turnovers (who cares if it's a "negative" statistic!?) then Rose would leapfrog Pau Gasol into first place.

And I think we all understand the significance of that!

PS, LOL at both this thread and the unwarranted Derrick Rose hate.

It's rather stating the obvious, though, isn't it? You surely didn't conjure this thread in the hopes of sparking any considered debate on the subject. How is anybody expected to add anything interesting in response? Unless you've arbitrarily decided that the statistical optimum for a player is somehow different to everyone else's idea of a maximum value. You're not fooling anybody, BullsFan88. The reason you began this thread was because you think the numbers validate your belief that Derrick Rose is just about the best player in the NBA. You're welcome to that opinion - he is playing damned well - just don't try to quantify it.

No...the thread says "Statistically D-Rose is the second best player in the NBA". When in reality, all the OP showed is that he is in second place in a statistic that sums points, rebounds, assists, and whatever else it was. Thats not exactly the same thing.

Unless the definition of "best player" is the player who compiles the most points, rebounds, and assists 10 games into the season. Maybe it is.

Actually the OP wrote

"As of now at this moment. Derrick Rose is the second best player in the NBA statistically. He is only behind Pau Gasol according to the Pts/Reb/Assist scoring by NBA.com"

No need to take it out of context, the thread title alone would make you correct, but clearly that's to grab attention, when you read the rest it's pretty obvious it's in relation to those particular stats. which is a stupid way to rate a player but let's stick to the facts?

Funny how people attacked him for this, yet no one even attacked the idea that Gasol is the best player in the NBA....

Its not obvious at all, you are the one thats avoiding facts. He is clearly defining this stupid stat as the end all "best player" stat, which is something only someone dumb enough to think Rose is the 2nd best player in the league would do.

I'd be mightily surprised if some one with a Lakers-related moniker arguing such a case wasn't subjected to the same treatment. Nonetheless, such a notion is a lot less far-fetched than Rose being the second best, even though the OP's case was merely statistical. There's no question Gasol's the best big man in the NBA, for instance. I don't care if Dwight has a new bank shot, he's still comparatively unreliable.

Except he's not, this is what the OP wrote
"You guys seem to be overreacting, I didn't say he is the second best player, just statistically....."

It's a badly worded thread title and the point wasnt made clearly, and that may be because the point itself isnt a great one. Anyone who understands basketball knows Rose isnt the 2nd best player in the NBA right now, he's also no scrub. He's arguably a top 5 guard in the NBA, absolutely top 10 in my opinion and has nowhere to go but improve.

Is Rose a #1 option on a championship team, not likely unless his supporting cast is fantastic and that means at least 4 deep through the bench. Right now the Bulls look good with Rose and Noah and hopefully a soon healthy Boozer. I'm not a Deng fan but he's an average NBA SF, they have a 3pt specialist in Korver and defensive specialist in Brewer, a decent 6th man in Gibson when Boozer returns but they're still a couple pieces away from being taken seriously

The Rose hate on this board is crazy, and I can honestly say the Rose overrating often comes from posters I havent seen/noticed on the Bulls board, so take that however you like

The knock on him statistically (fantasy wise) was that he's much better than his stats would tell you. A Tony Parker type of guy, no threes, steals, high turnovers and just the points/assists.

I watched his last three games (seen all of his games actually) and dude's been knocking down threes as if it's his forte. Very clutch in the fourth. Also averaging 1+ steals.

His field goal percentage went from below 40% through his first few games to 48% on 21 attempts after 10.

He's top 10 fantasy wise through his last three and top 30 overall. Impressive.

Thank god this wasn't on the GB. Rose already gets a bad enough rep there.
