The Basketball Advanced Stat Spreadsheet

Post#1 » by nonemus » Thu Nov 18, 2010 5:18 pm

So, I thought it would be really useful if the community created a public spreadsheet to calculate advanced statistics. Right now, I just did Team Ortg/Drtg and TS%. If we can get things like PER and WS up there too, then it would really be useful.

Here is the link to view the spreadsheet:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... y=COi27fMH

If you want to use it, download it do you computer or just save it as another document if you have Google Docs, but don't edit the file.

Is there someone who is willing to do PER and WS?

I see you're using the possession formula from DeanO's book. Over at APBRmetrics, we researched several formulations to see which matched best with formulas counted from the play-by-play. The most accurate estimator was .976 x (FGA + .44 x FTA - oreb + tov).

Are the variables total variables or different for each team?

Not sure what you mean. The .976 is applied universally, if that's what you're getting at.

By the way, I like the idea of what you're doing.
