Defensive Errors

Post#1 » by ElGee » Tue Mar 15, 2011 9:34 pm

Quick post I put together on the defensive errors I tracked. A lot of defensive theory at the root of errors: basically, don't give up open shots and layups if you can't.

For the 2010 playoffs, I wasn't quite as liberal with doling out errors (for eg, didn't account for failing to box out on the continuation of possessions). Nonetheless, the only qualifying player (min 300 possession) who didn't commit an error was Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.

Kevin Garnett was 4th with about one defensive error every 200 possesions. Steve Nash also rarely committed one -- yes, Phoenix zoned some, but Nash does quite a good job at keeping his man in front of him.

Jason Terry led all qualifying players with just under 3 errors/100 last year. Carmelo Anthony (constantly missing rotations) was second, Kobe Bryant 5th (blown by constantly).
