Mimicking OPS. Which I'm not a huge fan of, but is a nice and popular shorthand way of combining abilities
In short, I add together 0.025* Number of possessions per 36 minutes (calculated by (FGA+FTA*.044+TOV)* 36/MPG) to create a "Volume" number and 0.025 * (Individual ORTG-96) to make up an "Efficiency" number, then add them together
For example, 10 possessions per 36 minutes at 106 ORTG which seems like a fair estimate of replacement production, is a Volume Plus Efficiency of .500, as 10* .025 is .250 and 106-96 = 10, which * .025 is again, .250. 15 possessions at 111 ORTG is a VPE of .750 (.375 + .375), as is 20 possessions at 106 ORTG (.500 + .250). 20 possessions at 116 ORTG is 1.000, as is 15 possessions at 121 ORTG or 25 possessions at 111 ORTG.
Lebron James uses 22.65 possessions per 36 minutes (16.9 FGA + .44*6.7 FTA + 2.8 TOV) for a Volume of .566 and a 125 ORTG for an Efficiency of .725, for a total of 1.291. Mario Chalmers uses 12.02 possessions per 36 minutes at an ORTG of 110 for a Volume .301 and Efficiency of .350, for a total of .651.
Here is the entire Warriors roster using this
Warriors
Steph Curry - 1.005 (.530 Volume, .475 Efficiency)
Carl Landry - .902 (.402 Volume, .500 Efficiency)
David Lee - .817 (.467 Volume, .350 Efficiency)
Jarrett Jack - .772 (.422 Volume, .350 Efficiency)
Klay Thompson - .589 (.439 Volume, .150 Efficiency)
Harrison Barnes - .530 (.355 Volume, .175 Efficiency)
Richard Jefferson - .455 (.205 Volume, .250 Efficiency)
Andrew Bogut - .319 (.144 Volume, .175 Efficiency)
Andris Biedrins - .249 (.095 Volume, .150 Efficiency)
Festus Ezeli - .172 (.147 Volume, 0.025 Efficiency)
Draymond Green - .057 (.282 Volume, -.225 Efficiency)
Kent Bazemore - .535 (.335 Volume, .200 Efficiency)
Charles Jenkins - .091 (.216 Volume, -.125 Efficiency)
Brandon Rush - .680 (.480 Volume, .200 Efficiency)
Malcolm Thomas - .575 (.375 Volume, .200 Efficiency)
Jeremy Tyler - -.134 (.266 Volume, -0.4 Efficiency)
I also have the Blazers and Knicks done here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing. Some of their players:
Lillard .775
Aldridge .821
Batum - .683
Matthews - .749
Melo - 1.086
Chandler - 1.175
Smith - .786
Novak - .976
I feel the numbers pass the sniff test relatively well, unless one is opposed to players of the Chandler and Novak type grading out so well
Not saying it's a perfect stat, as OPS isn't, but thought it was worth posting
