Rating forwards by activity - Projecting rookie bigs

I wrote this earlier this year. I still haven't run my results over a large base of players, I will be doing that over the next few weeks. This is very basic work, but I believe there is something to be said for a player's activity level on college. Kind of like the saying for guards, "a turnover isn't always a turnover."

I just ran Perry Jones III, a player a view to be a colossal bust as a big man, and he came out with a score lower than JaJuan Johnson, at a paltry 17.02 activity rating.

I am working on a rating system for wing players, and point guards. I have a feeling that Jones may score okay as a wing player, but that's not taking into how badly he'll be abused on defense by NBA perimeter players.

Hmm. I like this in principle, but I don't know if you're actually doing what I'd hope you'd be doing. What I'd hope you'd be doing is some kind of measurement of how much a player is moving, both in his keeping-up of the transition game, and in his staying-in-the-play half court game.

First off I suppose, if you're coming up with a new rating, the first thing you need to do is explain the rating clearly. The only tables I see are a partial box score with your rating attached.

Second, as far as I can surmise then, your rating is based on the box score. While i sympathize that you may not have access to the kind of hyper-data that Synergy and others are currently providing for the NBA, I'm not entirely sure what you're doing just with box score. We already have measurements that basically factor in the whole box score, so what is it you're providing that can't be gleaned elsewhere?
