Winning close games...

Is there any statistical value to winning games by a close margin despite point differential being generally accepted as a better barometer of success than to-date record?

I mean, Dallas did win 67 games despite having a worse point differential than the defending champions, and Toronto is 7-4 since the trade despite Gay shooting WORSE as a Raptor than as a Grizzly.

Not that I know of. But I do know that blowing out poor teams is a better indicator of success in the playoffs than winning close games against strong teams.
