Just curious what people who follow statistical analysis a little more than I do think about it.

Allow for comps between guys who played on teams w/ vastly different pace.

I see. So what about a player who gets let's say 25 minutes per gamae versus a player who gets 35 minutes a game? Is it still a decent way to compare production?

It depends what you want to know. If you care about a per possession basis, use per 100 possessions. Per 36 is just a way to look at 2 players and compare them by minutely production. Per 100 will do the same, but by possession essentially. They're 2 different adjustments.

I'd say per 100 possessions allows better comparison between guys who average vastly different amount of minutes.

It helps to eliminate game style/pace from the equation when comparing.

You can also used the numbers to create adjusted per 36 minute numbers, by reducing the team's pace (which is measured at a per 48 minute rate, with teams being in the 98-89 range this year) to number of possessions per 36 (teams are in the 66-74 range this year), and then work out what a player does per possession (either per 36 or per game) that way.
