Compare Player Stats for Regular Season vs. Playoffs

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Wed Apr 27, 2016 5:59 pm

Media often says, "Increased during the playoffs" meaning points or some other statistic. Is there any place were this might be addressed?

One assumption I made was that stars increase their minutes, so they increase their points.
Another assumption was that because of heightened focus on stopping the stars, their shooting percentage would decline.

I did a spot check of 5 players that were in this year's playoffs and appeared near the top of "minutes per game" for both regular season and playoffs. These five players were James Harden, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, LeBron James, and Kemba Walker.

Unless I missed something, all five averaged fewer minutes in the playoffs than in the regular season.
All five had a higher shooting percentage in the playoffs.
Four out of five scored more points.
