How often does ESPN update RPM?

Post#1 » by Sixerscan » Wed Mar 22, 2017 6:03 pm

I know it says that it updates every 3 hours during the west coast business day, but I've noticed that guys' RPM will stay the same for like a week and then have a big jump all of a sudden. Sometimes on days they didn't play the night before. The games played will update every day though which is weird.

Maybe I am missing something that would cause that to happen. Sure seems like it is only updated every 1-2 weeks though.

Yeah I usually check, seems to be weekly approximately, sometimes a little more.

It's usually on Mondays, except for this week, during which it should happen Thursday the 24th

It seems kinda random to me...sometimes it updates in 1-2 days, sometimes a week

Yeah I noticed the big jumps as well, most recently RoCo skyrocketing into Top 5 DRPM in the league (3rd among starters :) ).

Another question though- why are the RPM's on ESPN so different from RPM's on basketball reference? I checked Westbrook's today on basketball reference and it was like 15 (almost double what's listed on ESPN and way more than any player). Must be missing something?

basketball-reference's metric is "BPM", while ESPN's metric is "RPM"
They're similar, but two different things

For the remainder of the season, RPM will be updated on Thursdays

BPM is related to PER.

RPM is related to RAPM.

BPM has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with RPM or RAPM. The difference between BPM and RPM is like the difference between a dog and a cat. Both are animals, but they are NOTHING alike.

BPM isn't related to PER.

Just a crappy box score based linear regression.

Just a crappy box score based linear regression.

Which isn't related to PER

BPM and PER are both descended from Naismith, so in that sense they are related.

BPM and PER are game/season level box score regressions.

RPM and RAPM are possession level regularized regressions.

There is a humongous difference here.

Correct.

But BPM and PER are not related.

Which is pretty ridiculous given that it would be simple for them to update it daily
