Points generated off missed shots

I've always been of the belief that some low-efficiency shooters (Hedo, Stephen Jackson, Old Iverson etc.) didn't necessarily hurt their teams that much with their chucking. That it was usually in the flow and that normal measures of efficiency didn't really do them any favors.

I always thought that say, a missed Hedo shot is a lot better than a missed Joey Graham shot because for w/e reason, a missed Joey Graham shot usually lead to an easier scoring opportunity for the other team. Just a casual observation that could be totally wrong, but something I feel is true.

Is there any statistical studies done on this? Say, "Points Scored off Missed Field Goal Per Missed Shot" for each player. I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard to do with access to play-by-play data.
