What 1 individual stat do most players aim to get?

Post#1 » by THROWBACK_91 » Tue Dec 15, 2009 9:13 am

This isn't including minutes played and any type of field goal percentage because i think that would be the general answers you'd get if you asked a player.

The obvious (but seemingly selfish) answer is probably points but what do you guys think?

Feel free to guess the stat a different kind of player would aim to get E.G:

Dwight Howard- Rebounds

Kobe Bryant- Points

And that is just an example, in no way i am saying kobe is selfish and wants points next to his name.

I think a lot of guys actually aim for blocks/steals because they are harder to get.

Last season I know Lamar, Kobe, Ariza, and Farmar had a bet on who would get the most steals haha
Thank you, Phil.

This is true for about 80% of the league.

Yeah, but who got paid the most? Kobe. The highest scorer.

I think it's scorining definitely.

Dwight would aim for scoring, too, if it were more realistic.

Really, I think the stat is more of a non-basketball stat than anything. It's like a respect/popularity stat, and I think that stat, in basketball terms, tends to most often be scoring.

Ask any completely random person who leads the league in scoring. I bet 90% (who can muster up an answer) say LeBron or Kobe. Cool. Then ask who leads the league in rebounding. You'll probably get Shaq, a few people who don't even play anymore, a few random current big men, and then maybe LeBron and Kobe again (they may come earlier).

For good or bad, I think scoring dominates, and I'd imagine if most people could pick what they dominated ("aim to get"), it'd be scoring.

Depends on the individual.

Some players look for double-doubles or triple-doubles, some look for 50/40/90, etc.
