Winnipeg NHL team will remain in Southeast Division

An Eastern Conference team source has told the Free Press that his club has already been told to expect two trips to Winnipeg next season should the Atlanta Thrashers move to Canada.

That indicates the league will likely stand pat for another season with its current divisional and conference alignment, one that would keep Winnipeg in Atlanta's current slot in the Southeast Division.

The National Hockey League would then take the next year or so to figure out what to do with a divisional and conference realignment, meaning Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins would make two trips to the Manitoba capital and Ovechkin's Washington Capitals would make three trips north.

After this season I don't see Winnipeg remaining in the Southeast Division, how do you think the NHL will most likely realign the divisions/conferences?

The good folks on TSN are saying we should be put in the Northwest division, with Colorado or Minnesota being bumped out.

Winnipeg to the Northwest COL to the Pacific, NSH to Southeast makes the most sense but I'm sure DET will try to use this to get into the east so they may over rule the preds.

Well 1st of all, its great that Winnipeg is back in the NHL & there's 1 less evil southern team :D And they keep the Jets name. Now if there's a return of the Nordiques & the Whalers. The 1st thing that should happen is that Nashville gets moved to the southern division. They might have a chance to compete there instead of the central. They always finishing 2nd. And most importantly the RedWings should stay in the west. Not just that they're america's team but they're the main draw out of the western teams.
2 west coast trips by the RedWings helps out arenas. If the NHL do like the NBA have just 4 division matchups instead of 6 so everyone can play each other twice.
Blackhawks are 2nd in the west cause of the chi-town transplants. Dallas should be in the central, the Peg in the northwest, Vancouver the Pacific. Somebody in sports needs 2 be smart in geography.
But I doubt that will happen cause it makes sense :(
