Payitforward, I’m not so sure that a
General Manager can’t encourage a coach by leading the coach into TRYING to implement youth like Carey into the lineup.

It’s roughly 45 percent of the way through the season. The next 55 percent or 46 games are all the opportunities for Carey to get minutes.

I think Carey will be tossed aside like Hutchinson. Unfortunately for VC I doubt WUJ plays Gibson any less minutes.

I hope he gets some time with the second team and not just at C.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Vernon Carey Jr. has played a total of 5 minutes this season.

He's had no chance to show anything at all -- neither "glimpses" nor anything either better or worse!

Neither you nor I nor Ken can say whether this kid can be good or not. But, he was an absolutely dominant player in his one year at Duke, so I'd say it would be smart to give him a real shot.

Are we smart enough to do that? To give him a shot? I don't know.

Usually, guys picked as high as VCJr do get some attention, development work, & a chance to succeed. OTOH, we are a particularly stupid team with no real history of developing players.

FWIW, Carey has been terrific with the Go-Go.

The G-League has terrible big men. There's only so many 6-10 people on the planet, and the best ones are already in the NBA. So good numbers in the G-League from a big man doesn't tell us much. Wes has seen Carey play in practice and in training camp. He knows more than we do. He isn't playing him for a reason. And it's not because he arbitrarily hates him.

I think a pretty good guess as to why he doesn't play is that Carey is terrible defensively.

When I watch Carey, he reminds me of Thomas Bryant.

His 3-ball has also been in use too.

So it most definitely is defensively.
