Pre Season Game thread: Wiz vs Taipans

Didn't see a thread started, so here it is. First thing that stands out is that Bilal is starting at the SF.

A little past mid-way through the first quarter:

The Taipans are god awful. Nothing can be substantively taken away from this game. With that said, Jones is already better than Monte Morris ever was. His floater game is looking good. Bilal had a nice steal and subsequent dunk.

As the resident Davis Hater on this board, I'll say that he's really bulked up and has had a really nice stint coming off the bench. Still, the Taipans stink. Whoever scheduled this game needs to be fired. What's the point of playing these scrubs?

Might be a while before the Wizards win a regular season game, might as well let them get a couple in pre.

You really can't take too much from this game. The Taipans are REALLY BAD. They look like a scrub D3 team out there.

Is that Davis's new jump shot form? He looked like MKG from 3 just now. He has this weird hitch on it.

Taipans played in sydney two nights ago. Not ideal prep.

Bilal looked ridiculous on defence. This kid is going to be something else.

I saw somewhere they only have 9 available players.

Good half. Bilal on defense is a problem for opponents, growing by the minute, looks like he belongs with the starters. Tyus and Gafford developing chemistry in pick and roll. Poole a bit quiet, looks like he is taking his time, nothing critical about this game. Johnny Davis working hard, looking better than last year, he and Wright look good together on defense. Kuz quieter, not forcing much, Jones knows to find him for 3 in the corners. Gallo still figuring out the nuances of the 5 position.

And is 5-6 with 11 points and 3 rebounds in the 1st half.

You forgot that part.

I think some local colleges could have put forth a better effort than the Taipans did tonight. That was glorified practice.

Yea that looked so awkward. And it was shot from the side of his ear.

Hard to draw too many conclusions. We played against a team that would struggle in the G league. But, there were some fun things happening on the court. Bilal looks legit on the defensive end and not a black hole on offense. He’s playable. Johnny Davis has bulked up considerably and has added a couple things to his game. Some nice finishes around the rim. Gafford looks unleashed. He even put the ball on the floor a couple of times. Tyus makes no mistakes, ever. Poole wasn’t really trying but he has crazy range and a ridiculously fast release. Gallo can hit from anywhere half court in. I really like Butler - I’d be very happy with him as our back up PG after trading Delon.

The Taipans do stink but maybe the point of scheduling the game was to start off the
pre-season with a confidence builder. If so, the question then becomes is that a good thing.
I'm pretty sure the players understand measuring yourself against non-NBA level talent
is not very meaningful.

I don’t know, I really enjoyed that. A win is a win, no matter if it doesn’t count. And a massive, blowout win is always a thing of beauty and a joy for— … for two days.
