Hard for me to imagine anyone trading for JD

They can't cut a guy they recently acquired because that would make them look foolish. So it won't be Gill, PBJ, or Bey.

That really only leaves Davis. Either him, or perhaps they move Holmes given their positional depth at center (JV, Sarr, Bagley, Vukcevic).

Agreed it would seem foolish, but didn’t they cut Taj Gibson after recently Resigning him last season?

I have to agree that Vukcevic has not shown much -- neither last season nor this preseason.

But, letting him go won't help our roster crunch: he's on a 2-way contract.

They waived Jared Butler?

Can't have anything to do with RayJ, who is on a 2 way contract. Butler was on a 2 way last year; they moved him up to the regular roster this year.

Bub Carrington is getting all of the backup PG minutes for now. Word of Baldwin Jr having an improved camp may have played a role as well. They clearly value Anthony Gill's leadership off the court as basically a coach in uniform. I don't have a problem with that. Jared Butler could have been a solid backup but he was already 3rd string and once Brogdon returns the minutes would be scarce. It's a tough decision but everyone knew this day was coming the last 2 months.

Makes sense, of course.
For that matter, he & his agent may have asked to be released -- he might well catch on elsewhere & flourish.

Tick-tock on a possible Corey Kispert contract extension. I believe 6pm ET today is the deadline.

Anyone think they pick up PBJ’s 4th year? Just to kick tires on a bad but still young player

Barring any unforeseen trades, they figure to have the following guys under contract next year:

Bilal
Sarr
Carrington
George
Kispert
Valanciunas
Kuzma
Poole
Bey
2025 FRP (high lotto)
2025 SRP (#33 or so from Det)

That's 11 guys right there. They have room for 15. The remaining 4 spots could be any of the following:

- Vukcevic
- PBJ
- Filler contract(s) received in a midseason Brodgon trade
- 2025 SRP (#50 or so from PHX)
- Holmes (if we need to opt in on his salary to get up to the cap limit)

It looks like they have the flexibility to fit him in, so there isn't that much downside to opting in. If nothing else, they can sign our late SRP to a 2-way deal if they need to free up a roster spot. The argument against opting in would be if they think they can find a youngish guy better than PBJ using cap room or the MLE. Maybe they try and poach a RFA like Aldama

Bringing this back after 7 games to see whether anyone wants to make a retrospective judgment now that we have seen at least a few games of the new season.

There were some strong negative opinions of our off season moves -- anyone want to change their view now that we have had a look at our rookies, gotten a taste of Keefe's coaching, & experienced a bit of play by Valanciunas?

In my case, I noted that I wouldn't have traded up from 26 to 24 just to get Kyshaun George. It's early days still, but it's looking like I will turn out to have been wrong!

It’s probably dumb to say but I have a bad feeling about the Kispert extension
