Keep Arenas

Post#143 » by tchmelik » Tue May 6, 2008 3:44 pm

This is absolute nonsense to even consider trading Arenas. First of all what has Elton Brand ever done in this league, what game winners has he hit, how many times did he score sixty against the Lakeshow, when has Elton Brand ever just taken over a game. The answer to all these is never, he is not clutch, he is not larger than life, he is not a player who is going to bring you deep in the playoffs. Arenas IMO can do this, any player that can score in bunches, ridiculous bunches, can push you over the top. Imagine if the current team the Wizards had was healthy, I know everyone keeps saying this, but please give it a chance, just imagine a newly motivated Tough Juice, the amazingly consistent AJ, for the first time ever playing like a real starting center Brendan Todd Haywood, and defensive glove Stevenson. That lineup to some might not be scary, but its solid, and these have known each other for what amounts to ages in the NBA (nearly three years). Not only do they have continuity, they now have a decent bench, as much as people rip on Songalia, he is a great shooter and a veteran, a guy who can go out there a get you ten or so points in as many minutes. The Wizards also have a bench guy in Roger Mason who can drop buckets, they haven't had that since Juan Dixon. Nick Young is coming along, he'll gain muscle this off season. I personally see Dominic becoming a great rebounder off the bench, the few times I have seen him play, all I can think is "Holy S**T that boy can jump". Who knows what will ever become of Andray, we will just have too see. But for heaven's sake this team was injured off and on all season, they never got to play with their star. I know people have said this over and over again, but give em' a chance. Just look at the Pistons, Spurs, and Jazz, look continuity has done for them. Also remember isn't just making the playoffs better than what we had in the late nineties, it is absolutely amazing how us Wizards have gotten spoiled so fast. So I say keep arenas around, and when was the last time we talked basketball during the football season, he is the only player I can remember that transcends the Redskins.

D'Antoni reportedly wants the Bulls job. Would he try to reunite Gil/Larry to headline his run-gun offense? If Tyrus ever got consistent they could be lethal.

Noah
Tyrus
Deng
Hughes
Arenas

If they offered Hinrich/Nocioni for Gil (S&T), would Grunfeld think about it?

He's not Tim Duncan, but he's damn good averaging 20,10 and 2 blocks per game for HIS CAREER. As far as taken over a game, he does everytime he's on the floor by his presence. Just because he doesn't have the ball in his hands, throwing up 30 footers at the buzzer, doesn't mean he's not a clutch player.

So Gil is fun to watch and he hits a ton of last-second shots and game-winners because he always has the ball in his hands and is a great shooter. But jump-shooting teams do not win in the playoffs. You need a big guy and we don't have one. Yeah, BTH is improved but not a big offensive force and Jamison is a tweener. That's fine if you want to make the playoffs every year, but to go past the first round, we need a big. Now adding another point guard after losing Arenas would be tough, but if you jettison Jamison or do a S&T, you have enough money to go out and get one.

This is why I hope we get Hibbert...I think his offensive game is nice.

No.

Maybe Hinrich + Nocioni + Noah for Gil + Etan

Those three Bulls players together aren't worth a
healthy Gil IMO.

I don't think so either. But I wouldn't even contemplate the thought of trading Arenas unless they put Noah or Deng on the table. Hinrich + Nocioni for Arenas is laughable.

Every morning, I wake up and thank the Lord that LyricalRico isn't the Wizards' GM.

I would think about it harder if Chicago threw in a 1st Round Pick.

Nate...too often in the Wiz/Bullets' past we've given away young,
talented players for lesser talent. I don't know about you but
I'm done with that. We resign a healthy Gil and AJ to reasonable
contracts, we have a good draft and count on the develipment
of the young players currently on our roster.

I might be in the minority but I don't think we need to
"BLOW IT UP." We just need to "TWEAK IT" some.
