Both Walton's pro and college careers pale in significance to his work as a broadcaster -- both on NBA telecasts and on "One More Saturday Night," his Grateful Dead show on Sirius.

Greatest broadcaster in the history of sports, based on the last 5 minutes I listened to him.

:nonono: More underappreciation for Walton...

He's the greatest broadcaster in the history of western civilization.

Name me one broadcaster in the history of eastern civilization who was any better? And don't give me any crap about the Asian "Cosell Brothers" for Better off Dead. That was set in the west!

Bill Walton had some great seasons in the NBA, but was probably too injured to merit the HoF based on his pro career, lustrous though it was at times. Walton's college career was off the charts. He'd belong in the HoF even if he never played a game in the NBA.

Is the difference between Walton's NCAA career and Laettner's NCAA career so vast that Walton gets in on college credits alone, while Laettner doesn't?

Or is it that Laettner's mediocre career actually *undermines* his collegiate accomplishments (while Walton at least tantalized us with flashes of dominance at the pro level)? I honestly think that people sleep on Laettner's accomplishments at the collegiate level. I'm no Duke fan, but Laettner was the most accomplished collegiate player of his era or since--by a wide margin.
