Trade 1st round pick and Mason to Boston for Posey. Even though it's an intradivision trade it works for both teams. Wizards don't need more youth and Mason while valuable is going to want more $ than Wiz should pay when Nick Young plays the same position. Posey is a tough, defensive minded player who can 3 positions, back up Butler, hit big shots and gives the Wiz championship experience (he's the next coming of Robert Horry).

Boston has the luxury of being able to wait on a talented rookie but they also need a ready back-up to Allen -- he logged heavy minutes in the Finals cuz they had no one they trusted to spell him. Posey helped Boston win their championship, now it's time for him to move on and help the Wiz win theirs.

First of all, in order to be traded Posey would have to exercise his option for next season and all indications are that he wants to opt out to re-sign for more money and a longterm deal. If he doesn't want to play on a small contract for the world champions, why would he do it with the Wizards?

And even if he did agree, why give up a first round pick to rent a backup SF for a year?

I wouldn't be opposed to signing Posey for 3-5 years at a salary close to what the combined salaries of Mason and a 1st rnd pick would be over the same period. Wiz need to win now, so even though they may be giving up more than they need to in order to get Posey it's worth it. They've got enough young players to develop so the loss of the 17th pick isn't that significant even if they're getting a 31 year old on his last contract.

I don't see why Boston would trade Posey when they can just draft somebody comprable to CDR to back Ray Allen up at the end of the first. It's no coincidence Posey has now won with Miami and Boston as a role player, he's as solid a role player as you can find. I don't know why they would do anything to alter their squad outside of add youth at their 1st and 2nd round picks to the roster they have, especially if its giving up their top man off the bench.

Neither would I. In fact I'd love him at a Stevenson-like salary. The problem is that Posey is opting out of a contract that is just that size. My guess is he's after the MLE (3 years, $17M) or thereabouts. I don't think we can afford that and still stay under the tax.

I don't think it will be McGee I heard he had a bad workout. I still think the pick will be either Donte Green or Roy Hiibbert tonight.

You obviously haven't received your EG "leak translator" in the mail yet. If the Wizards leaked that McGee had a bad workout, chances are, he's one of our top choices.

Time to grab a few cold beers and get ready for the draft! It seems as if a lot of people here want us to draft Hibbert. However, I'd say Ernie should take the best available player even if Hibbert is available.

Based on my due diligence and research, my best guess is that "with the #18th pick in the 2008 NBA draft the Washington Wizards select F Ryan Anderson from California"

This is on the assumption that Darrell Arthur will go a bit earlier than #18. Javale McGee is no longer being considered.

Earlier in the day (in my last mock), I thought they could possibly trade down with Houston and grab Anderson, but that Houston rumor didn't hold much truth to it.

At #18 Donte Green....at #25 if the Houston trade goes thru JJ Hickson.

While I agree that PG and SF are more pressing needs, Greene isn't ready to contribute and what good does a back SF do us if he can't play next year, when we need him to. Thus, we can rule him out here. Chalmers would be a very nice selection as he is exactly the type of backup PG we need and would be great insurance behind the injured Gil and the aging AD. In the end though I think EG will have confidence that Gil will be be healthy again, not leaving very many minutes for a 3rd PG.
This is a great situation to draft Mcgee, a C with tons of upside and potential given the new trend of other teams not wanting to wait and develop these players. We are in a rare situation of being 2 deep at just about every position and can afford to take on a project. This is especially true at the C position for several reasons. First and foremost, we have Etan returning next year to be our backup C so Mcgee wouldn't be counted on to play important minutes just yet. We do have a hole at the 3rd center spot so he could be a spot player while also bouncing down to the NBDL regularly. Also, while Etan is back next year there isn't much of a guarantee he would be back the year after when he is an expiring contract. With a year under his belt to add weight and learn the system, Mcgee should be better prepared to take on the backup C spot and allow us to deal Thomas without thinking twice. Mcgee also has the potential to be a starter in this league and could be showing that right about the time Haywood's contract is up, leaving us in another very flexible situation where we could afford to either deal 'Wood or just let him walk if he gets too expensive.

Basically, it comes down to Mcgee and Chalmers in my mind but I foresee us going with the bigger upside and bigger player in general. With Gil in the fold, our backup PG will never have to play heavy minutes(barring injury obviously) and I think it will be much easier to find a 3rd PG in free agency over a quality C.
