Latest from the Times:

"Gilbert Arenas is close to accepting a six-year offer from the Washington Wizards that could be worth as much as $127 million, according to a source close to both parties.

Wizards team president Ernie Grunfeld early Tuesday morning offered Arenas a six-year deal for $127 million, one of two offers extended to Arenas just after the free agency period began. The Golden State Warriors also offered Gilbert Arenas a max deal, according to a source. The Warriors offered Arenas five years for $101 million. The Wizards, because Arenas was under contract with them, are permitted to offer six years while other teams can offer only five."

The Warriors can only offer 5 years and 8% raises. If EG did indeed offer $127M, that's the full MAX. Arenas can't get anywhere near as much from anybody else. He already said he wants the max and he already said he'd stay if Jamison stays. EG has met both criteria. Arenas will stay. If he doesn't, he's got no integrity.

So there you have it. We kept Arenas and Jamison while obliterating any salary discipline. We have no flexibility going forward and Abe will most likely pay the luxtax next year. What you see is what you get. There will be no trade in 2009 involving AD's and Etan's expiring contracts. We'll probably keep Haywood but even that isn't a given. There's a strong possibility we lose one of Nick Young or Caron Butler in 2011 unless Abe wants to pay the luxtax again.

EG better be good in the draft over the next few years. We're going to need some good, cheap players to fill out our roster. No more swinging for the fences in the draft. We need juniors and seniors who can contribute now, even if they have limited upside.

**** the Warriors, I am so pissed right now. Can't believe we have to give Gil the max and I really doubt he'll take a cut at this point.

The luxury tax might be irrelevant in regards to Abe paying it..because I don't think Abe will bw owning the team for too much longer anyway.

The GSW can't offer that much. They have to let a bunch of players go before they can even offer something like that. Besides, they will stink if those moves take place. If the Wizards offer him a full max they are fools. Gilbert is a great talent but he's not a max player. You can't pay someone that amount and expect any salary cap flexibility in the future. Of course Pollin may just say sign him no matter what and that's it. Then we will watch every FA leave the team with luxury cap excuses. Great!

The only FA's we have coming up that we want to resign are Caron (in three years), Haywood (in two years), and Nick Young (in 4 years).

Well, part of the Times update that gives me hope:
The source also said that Arenas -- who has a 9 a.m. flight today to China for part of a two-week promotional tour with Adidas -- likely will take less than the max to help give the Wizards more flexibility financially. Arenas likely won't agree to the new deal until returning from China and once the NBA releases the salary cap numbers for the coming year so he will have a better idea of what the Wizards have to work with and how he can help by "leaving money on the table," the source said.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

I don't think Gilbert will go back to the Warriors. I can't see him getting along with Don Nelson I think he will resign with the Wizards if he is a man of his word about him coming back for less if Antwan resigned he will sign for what he is being offered that is a fair deal for someone who's coming
back from 2 major knee injuries in 2 years.

Return to Washington Wizards
