West Indies had a dangerous team back in the days of Ambrose and Walsh.. I remember how unoptimistic I used to be when Pakistan tourned the caribbean back in the day..

Hey... Marbury's being waived... let's sign him to the minimum!
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

West Indies cricket aint what it used to be. But yeah, it all went to hell after Walsh and Ambrose left. It was rubbish to bring a washed up Lara back too. Gone are the days me and my dad used to rush to Sabina Park in Jamaica, or even island hop during the last world cup. Those were the days!! Now they lack discipline, youthful interest, and a proper farming program. Quite frankly, the Caribbean countries have all but lost interest in cricket. I know Jamaica has. It's track and field and football now...you know, the football you actually play with your foot.

Aw man, you beat me to it. All right then, how about this:

I'm sure he'll be back sometime after the All Star break, definitely by the end of April, and he'll be 100% in time for the Playoffs.

:D

I was thinking the same thing about the All Star break. My thinking is that we have a long term investment in Gil lets make sure he is completely healthy then bring him back. Instead of him rushing back in Dec or Jan only to still have trouble with the knee, let him sit out and practice hard with the team and after he has done that for a while then bring him back. Also EJ should limit him minutes initially and gradually work him back in.

Just to be clear, my post about Arenas being back after the All Star break and 100% by the playoffs was tongue-in-cheek. I actually have no idea what to expect. I hope for much better and fear for much worse, but my post was just an attempt to move to the next stage in the delayed-return saga. You know, the one a step or two before, "I'm sure by the time 2009 training camp opens, he'll be fully recovered, in basketball shape, and ready to play a full season and compete for a title."

What is this I hear Gil thinks he can come back sometime in November?!?!

Seriously, they need to put that dude in traction until the All-Star break just to make sure cuz if he goes down again he's down for good.

On the other hand they have a rehab specialist on the bench now, so hopefully there's a an extra guy to go through with the 'go/no-go' decision. Coaches want to win games, GM's like to see return on investment, team doctors like to trepan themselves, huff ether, and play their jars of leeches, apparently-- but a rehab specialist has his longterm job on the line.

It's a positive that they hired a rehab specialist but the Wizards need to change their medical staff, they're abysmal... Gil should come back in december or january just to make sure that's he's fully healed even if he's gonna be ready to play in November.

It's depressing that news of Arenas coming back earlier than scheduled from surgery brings me sadness, not joy. I mean, is there anyone who doesn't believe that he'd play at 65% for a month before shutting it down again and possibly getting another surgery?

The thing is we just don't know. I'm not a doctor. If the most recent surgery really was just to clean up some things and it happened in August then late November doesn't seem unreasonably soon to come back. I understand and partly share everyone's apprehension after the last couple years, but I'm trying to not have any expectations, good or bad.

I would think that Gilbert and everyone else involved will err on the side of being overly cautious given what's happened.

I agree with you, if there's something really serious with the knee that the surgery didn't fix then he won't come back at all this season, but if they have in fact fixed the problem, I mean he's been healing for six months or whatever already, and the surgery didn't sound like it was reaggravating what was operated on before. So if he comes back at all he should be able to come back quickly.

I think November was where I was thinking to begin with the type of surgery he had. There was an option to clean out my knee and the doctors wouldof okayed me to work 2 days after the surgery and allow me to go back to playing sports at the end of the first week if thier was no complications.
I am Scabs.
