Great move by a tireless GM and organization that will not settle for mediocrity. Total win-win all-round on this deal for DET.

I disagree about extending Sheed/AI. They really need to use next season to develop their young players and accelerate their return to contention. Then they can add a superstar in 2010 to an experienced lineup rather than trying to convince Melo or LeBron that untested kiddies will be their key to championships.

I don't think Iverson can be labeled inconsistent. He's too good to be considered inconsistent. True, he's not the 2001 AI where he's a threat to drop 40 in a blink of an eye, but he's far from being an inconsistent player. Andray Blatche is inconsistent, but a bad day for AI is still Juan Dixon on a good day.

However, I am curious to see how AI's skill set translates to Detroit's game plan. I'm sure he's more than capable of running a set offense, but his body up defense and his jump shooting ability have never been strong. So either AI can up the tempo of this team, or the team gets disgruntled at too many pull up jumpers with the shot clock winding down.

Perhaps "inconsistent" was the wrong word. How about "streaky"? Basically, when his jumper is falling, he can't be stopped. When it's not falling, he's reduced to being a slasher with a relatively low shooting percentage.

This move make a lot of sense for the Pistons salary cap wise. They will have a ton of salary come of the books after the season, plus Iverson should put asses in the seat. Can we say asses on this forum???

For Denver it makes less sense but getting a PG and a native son cant hurt. I guess I am still puzzeled by Camby dump. To me Nene is to inconsistent and too injury prone for my taste and K-Mart is just a shell of his former self.

Hopefully AI is used as a pg there. He's an upgrade from Chauncy Billups but can be let go if the chemistry is not there. Plus Iverson brings people to the game and sells merchandise.

Billups will be an upgrade for Denver even if that doesn't make sense to what I just wrote. He's a solid guy who can give Melo more freedom but still knock down open looks caused by teams collapsing on the other scorers.

I understand the move from a sal perspective for DET but I totally
don't get the McDyess angle. He's a key player for them, even with
Maxiell emerging. I don't understand why DEN would agree to the
deal if they plan to buy out McD. It seems like they're not getting
nearly enough in return.
