I assume Yao has a better standing reach, but he's not in the database. I think at full extension on a jump he probably reaches as high as a young Shaq (9'3 reach and 36" vert vs 9'6.5 and 32.5), and probably better than anyone else, although Dwight Howard would be close.

Like I said, just teach him the Shaq low post spin move, and he'll be putting down alley oops like crazy.

What I been jabbering about since the day after the draft (when I got over the Bill Walker firesale). Here for instance. Essentially only Dwight Howard and the Baby Shaq had a higher jump + standing reach in 10 years of available measurements. Long and athletic like nobody's bidness. Does that translate into production? Well most often the superbig guys are genetic freaks, often attaining size via disease (acromegaly, pituitary tumors, etc. like the aforementioned P.Pod for instance) But this kid was raised by pro athletes and was naturally big, has a better chance to integrate the skill. Still should take a while, true bigs develop more slowly. But he's making a case for himself.

Funny last night how he failed to throw down the alley oops mostly because he somehow jumped TOO HIGH... That just does not happen. And as for offensive rebounds, like I've said he acts as a funnel above the net, when he's not, you know, goaltending. He'll be good pretty quick. A nice start.

Absolutely untrue. A few people liked both picks, myself included.

And myself as well, though admittedly I'm a a complete non-entity on this forum (only having posted around draft day '07 and '08 and a lil bit more beyond that). Look back over the threads and you'll find plenty of posters manning the barricades propping, or at least taking a wait and see and spin the positive side approach to the picks. What makes it seem different is that several very prominent, ultra-respected posters absolutely freaking HATED ONE, and in many cases BOTH, picks. I respect the hell out of CCJ for totally owning being wrong thus far about McGee (although it's still early). Even those of us who liked the selection of McGee liked the pick largely because in that slot, the available talent screamed "bench scrub/bust" w/the exception of McGee. Other than McGee there was noone left on the board that really had "could potentially be special" in his scouting report, but McGee dropped for good reason at the time, never really putting everything together at UNR, and none of us, not even those of us who really genuinely loved the pick, really expected him to play as well as he has so darn fast.

Comsiglieri, I was wrong about Young, too.

I see other recently-drafted SG types that might bring more intangibles to the table but none score any better than Young. Nick is such a good scorer I don't mind him not doing much else out there.

Aside from his shot blocking, funny thing is I see McGee as another really good offensive player.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.
