Right now, Nick is shooting a higher percentage than all of our bigmen.

For Etan Thomas, sure. For Nick Young, no.

Nick Young is looker better by far this year. He is looking more like Gilbert - unstoppable. He's even getting in alley oops, along with McGee. He wants to be in the slam dunk contest in the all star game. I see him as a future all star.

So come on people. Offensively you can't be critical of nick young. You can't compare him to other people who were fine offensively for a little bit then fell off. Someone made a few points about how he is offensively. When we were in the draft process before we got him I felt like he was a young kobe but not as aggressive. He has excellent footwork when setting up his shot, can create his own shot and frankly I think his being here should get people like Jamison off the perimeter cause Jamison is scoring in other peoples areas. A PF like Rasheed, Amare or Gasol is what we need now.

Going back to Nick. Its established he can create his shot. Its established that he is efficient. Not by some bias I have but backed by numbers from college and his numbers from last year where offensively he was our most efficient guard. Now this year he is shooting at a higher percentage than most big men. Someone mentioned that and got cursed out. I mean why is this all necessary lets just be sensible. He's efficient in college, last year, this year all backed by numbers. Visually when you watch him the shots are within the flow of the offense and the volume can easily increase. The shots he missed last game he was either fouled or shooting late on the shot clock cause the ball was funneled to him at that point. The faster and stronger he gets the more pressure he will put on defenses up to a point where we have to force people to account for him. Petrius couldn't defend him. Bowen said he was special offensively. Thats respect. Mediocre defenders were getting punished. There is no reason why he shouldn't be unstoppable. He's a 20 ppg player this year. Thats Larry Hughes best numbers and Larry was so inefficient compared to Nick.

when he develops he will be a championship caliber starting two guard. The rip Hamilton's, the Ginobli's, the ray Allen's. All that is left is for him to show that he can be good defensively without fouling. For him to gain speed and strength. For him to become more intelligent in his offense.

So is he improving? Last year he fouled a lot on defense, not as much anymore. He's fouling at a regular rate although he has made some silly fouls reaching in. He's come up with steals so he's more aware, He's closing out and challenging peoples shots well. The 3 pointers thats coming from the perimeter? thats not the guards fault. Thats because our Starting power forward and current center are getting posted up and constantly require help. Guards collapse and the wing becomes open. Happens less when Javale and Blatche are on the floor cause they do a PF and C's work which I feel Etan and Jamison don't do.

Is he getting stronger? yeah he's not getting bumped off in the lane as much, he can post better, he's not being posted up constantly. But he is screened off defenders alot. But usually those screens are so elaborate even Dsteve couldn't keep up with them. I've watched this happen against Kyle korver and Rip Hamilton. Nick young might be better offensively cause he doesn't require such elaborate screening. If anything I'm looking to see how soon he can produce Kevin Martin type numbers.

Is he getting smarter offensively? Well enough to be efficient and he's being more selective in his shots. If anything for him to show me he is getting smarter I want to see his offense creating assist opportunities from people trying to force the ball off his hands. I also expect him to reduce those indirect turnovers he makes.

So due to the combination of his youth and skills. Unless we are getting someone who gives us an almost direct chance to win right this second or someone who will play a bigger role than him in our future team its pointless to trade him. Those players are few and far between. And no its not maxiell. If we have to trade for Maxiell our problem is not with the two guards, our problem is with our Power forwards and they should be the ones to go. They are also able to get Maxiell in return.

I think Young's D has been rock solid this year. He may even be an average defender, or at least he's not noticeably below average. He's playing better D than any other guard on the roster, though that's damning with feint praise.

to piggy back bruce's post... Nick Young has impressed me so far. He's a better finisher and though i don't think he's gotten stronger over the off-season, he's getting more points because he's a bit quicker so that the bumps don't affect his finish as much. He is capable of putting up 20 a game if given the minutes, which is more than DS is capable of. His defense isn't as good as hughes, and that's not statistically speaking with the steals.... he's just not as good as shutting off the angles... but one day in the near future he will be. NY is our future SG as far as i'm concerned and he's a great deal ahead of 15 of the other starting SG's in the league and that puts him above average statistically. get us healthy and then fire up the bandwagon. i'm optimistic.

Not exactly. Someone took an argument out of context which related to Young's efficiency prior to this season and implied that I said he wasn't playing well now. My anger was from him repeatedly using this tactic in other posts.

Nick is definitely playing well and deserves to start over DeShawn. I've already stated that and feel it gives the team the best chance to win. My only thing is I'm not ready to call Nick a star or superstar or put him in the same breath as a healthy Gil.
