I hope that day will come. Seems we have been waiting a long long time.
Point well taken. And I agree that usually you fix that problem with depth. We haven't had significant depth. Last year was the first year we had actual talent on the bench. But it's raw talent mostly. More potential than accomplishment, even at the college level. This year it's more of the same, plus the turmoil of a coach being fired, and the loss of three of last year's most key players (Haywood, Daniels, Mason) and the complete self-detonation of DeSteve.
Young players usually begin to have a real effect in their third year. Dray for instance is starting to get it, after losing a year to gunshots. Our guys played pretty significant minutes last year. This year, no. I agree we should be playing them more, but there's something going on here. Our GM has a plan, that's something I'm completely convinced about. Ernie is one of the slow careful guys. This year we're eating losses on purpose since we're capped out, with untradeable vets and have no other way to add talent. You use the opportunity of a lost season to add a great piece.
But you fix things from the worst problem to the least. The biggest problem this team had/has was not having a great HC. That is still the biggest problem. Well that and it's owner.
I'd submit our biggest problem has been health. But we're still a year away from depth to make up the difference there. I'd bet we play the rooks in patches and spot duty,, but not enough to really win much. Just experiment and nibble around the edges.
