whats the deal with Etan?

Post#1 » by BruceO » Sat Dec 20, 2008 9:54 am

I mean I know he had heart surgery and before that was EJ's pet much to our dismay.. But isn't it interesting he's not playing much? Is it because he's still suffering effects of not being healthy enough or does Tapscott think he sucks? Or is it because we are developing Blatche and McGee while we aren't going anywhere. Will we be seeing Etan during the season or the next?
So my question is what's the deal with Etan? We haven't really spoke about his being MIA.

Etan truly has sucked this year. It's not like 2 years ago when Etan at least put up some nice stat lines (despite being burned on D). This year, Etan is absolutely terrible at every phase of the game.

I don't think Tankscott is going out of his way to play the youngsters. He is just applying common sense and recognizing that the youngsters are clearly more effective. There really isn't any reason to put Etan out there. Frankly, I'd rather see Pecherov.

I don't see how you can say Etan has "sucked" this year when he's hardly played. The guy missed the entire season so I think you have to give him some minutes and a chance to get back into playing shape before deciding he can't make a contribution.

Given the Zards' poor rebounding and defense, I say give ET some minutes. Afterall, we are 4-20 and neither McGee nor Blatche have been setting the world on fire.

Have you been watching any of the games this year? Etan has sucked in every single game he's played in except for maybe one. And he has played...he even started a few games before [that guy] benched him in favor of McGee.

Etan has played less than 15 minutes in every game this season, except 4 or 5. When he's played 15 or more minutes here are the results:

Orlando on Nov. 8: 6 rebounds in 17 minutes
Atlanta on Nov. 19: 5 rebounds in 16 minutes
Orlando on Nov. 27: 6 rebounds in 15 minutes

But, then again, the Zards don't need rebounding.

don't be a stat geek, watch the game...he clearly sucks and there are players better and more productive than him.

Here's a stat for you: the Zards record is 4 and 20. When are those better, more productive players going to show up? Next season.

Is there anywhere that keeps track of +/- for the season? I'm pretty sure Etan was like -100 when compared to McGee earlier in the season when both were playing regularly. I'd be interested to see whose is worse, Etan or Debrickashawn Ferguson.

The Wizards are a whopping -25 per 100 possessions when Etan is in the game. That's an incredibly bad number. The team yields an unimaginably bad 129 points per 100 possessions when Etan is on the floor. Their eFG% allowed is 58.7%! And DCZards, your stat is useless because of the cause-effect problem. Etan doesn't play well when he gets minutes. He gets minutes when he plays well.

Etan was a starter for several games and the team fell into a gigantic hole in the first quarter every single time. He is a terrible defender and, this season, he's not even a good rebounder. To be fair, Etan took an entire season off and wasn't able to train with contact until recently, so I can see why he is rusty. Maybe he'll get better as the season progresses. But make no mistake, he has been absolutely AWFUL this season so far.

well the amazing this is he doesn't even sniff the floor anymore for spot minutes where minimal damage can be done. This is a dramatic turn. I'm wondering if he's not fully healthy and that is the cause of his sucking. If it was a conditioning thing I'd assume in spot duties he wouldn't get worn out.
I also wonder if this is a temporary situation as far as his level of play or is now permanently where he is now, meaning the organization won't invest in him in the future and we have seen the last of him on the floor. Or is there health and conditioning they are waiting for him to achieve before we get subjected to him again.

Using Etan against Dampier would have been justified last night.

4-21.

Wow. This with essentially the same team who played quite well last year. Jamison and Butler's value are falling by the day.
