Quick Question?

Post#1 » by orl1724 » Wed Mar 25, 2009 7:33 am

I haven't seen many Wizard's games this season but it seems that after this season and draft you guys will look like a pretty solid team as far as starting 5 and bench goes. My question to you guys is what do you think your starting 5 will be next season? I know a lot of this varies on the draft obviously but Nick Young has come up pretty big this season and I think might deserve a shot at the starting SG spot I was pretty high on him during the draft some said he could turn up to be the next Kobe who knows. Anyway do you think it will look anything like this?

C-DRAFT/Haywood/Blatche
PF- Jamison/Thomas/Songaila
SF-Caron/McGuire
SG-Young/Stevenson/Dixon
PG-Arenas/Crittenton/Dixon

Is that realistic or am I way off?

You'll probably get a bunch of opinions. Things will depend heavily on where the pick is, as well as who is hired as coach. A couple quick things:

--If Haywood stays, he'll be the starting C. His absence has demonstrated his value to the Wizards, which is probably higher than his trade value.

--Dixon will likely be gone.

Next season's starting lineup will most likely be:

Haywood, Jamison, Butler, Stevenson/McGuire, Arenas.

Right. It's a metaphysical certainty that Arenas, Butler, Jamison and Haywood will start. The only question is who the fifth starter will be. Right now, I think the odds favor Dominic McGuire. But it could also be Stevenson or our draft pick. And there's an outside chance that it'll be Nick Young or Andray Blatche

There might also be a chance of a significant trade that brings back an upgrade at SG.

Under a new head coach I think our team will look like this with our current players...

C-Haywood-McGee-Thomas
PF-Jamison-Blatche-Songalia
SF-Butler-McGuire-Pecherov
SG-Stevenson-Young-Dixon
PG-Arenas-Crittenton-James

With a draft pick perhaps Griffin, we dont resign Dixon, buy out James, and a 2nd round pick...

C-Haywood-McGee-Thomas
PF-Griffin ?-Blatche-Songalia
SF-Jamison-McGuire-Pecherov
SG-Butler-Young-Stevenson
PG-Arenas-Crittenton-2nd round pick ?

My ideal line-up and players who actually get minutes if we draft Griffin, dont resign Dixon, buyout James, and a 2nd round pick...

C-Haywood-McGee (Thomas DNP)
PF-Griffin-Blatche (Songalia for spot duty)
SF-Butler -Jamison (Pecherov in garbage time to develope more)
SG-Young-McGuire-Stevenson
PG-Arenas-Crittenton-PG from 2nd round

If we drafted Griffin were going to be packed at C and PF with Haywood, Jamison, McGee, Songalia, Pecherov, Thomas, and Griffin, I think atleast one maybe two of them will have to be traded. In its current state if we draft Griffin and do the other things I've said this roster is going to need tinkering with because theres to many players who deserve minutes. This is how I see it.

Deserve 35+ mpg...
1.Arenas
2.Butler

30+ mpg
1.Jamison
2.Haywood

25+ mpg
1.Blatche

20+ mpg
1.Griffin
2.Young
3.McGuire

15+ mpg
1.McGee
3.Crittenton

If they all played the bare minimum of what they deserved thats already over by 5 mpg to whats available in a game and that doesn't even consider in Stevenson, Songalia, Thomas, Pecherov, and a potential second round pick. So say Thomas, Pecherov, and the 2nd round pick are inactive, and Stevenson and Songalia are end of the bench players, were pretty deep, deeper than we've been for a long time. I also think we need to add another shooter who can nail the three. So our GM has some work to do even with a potentially deep roster, he's going to have to make some moves.
