Kidding me?

Consider that Boykins took Randy Foye's minutes this past game. Mattafact he took Gilbert's fourth quarter minutes (much as he did in Golden State).

That's the interesting speculation: what's the Boykin effect in playtime for Gilbert/Foye considering Flip's reputation for playing the veterans all he can. Gilbert is recovering/learning, Foye never been comfortable at point. But Boykins makes Caron better, for one, among others. Should be interesting to finally have a few options back there.

And then eventually JCritt gets his foot sewn back on... Minutes at the one will be in short supply. But Mike James? Nah. He's just an expiring contract, is all.

That was eerily reminiscent of Gil's early days in the NBA - like watching ESPN's NBA Classics.

I think ole Earl's roster spot is secure - for a while. But if I recall correctly, the reason he was traded in midseason by Denver to Milwaukee (for mainly Steve Blake) a few seasons ago was strictly because the trade kept Denver out of the lux tax.

Have you watched the last 2 games?

Yes I did see the last two games, no-one has been screaming louder for a decent PG then me. I've been advocating for years that we should have been searching for a PG to develop.
I made my comments based-upon our selling draft-picks etc. We are paying lux-tax for Boyk's services.
I would like to see us keep Boyk for the rest of the year, but with a healthy James and at some-point Crit, I don't see Ernie keeping Boyl around unless he buys-out someone.

Well the main reason was because a backcourt of Allen Iverson and Earl Boykins was pure suicide. We needed a true PG, that was on the taller side, to D up shooting guards a bit. And seeing as Boyk is an even smaller version of AI with significantly less talent, there was no reason to keep him. And plus, he was kind of a locker room cancer as well. The money was definitely part of it and he would likely have been traded eventually, but at that specific time it was more about team need.

What's going to happen to Crit once he's able to start playing, buy-out perhaps? Boink is getting the job done.

Buyout? Why? At our rate of injury, we'll probably need him at some point. At the very least he can be trade filler. No need to buy him out, though.

A week or 2 ago I said Earl was Fools Gold. That remark seems
entirely premature and offbase now. He's great when used
properly/situationally and Flip seems to know just how to
do that.

Critt will be another weapon by late in the season.
A PG with size which is something we don't have now,
unless you count MM as a PG.

Someone mentioned earlier that he was Gil's teammate at GS when Arenas came into the league. Wizards are his 9th NBA team. Played last season in Italy.

I always got the impression that Boykins is a positive guy. If he can settle things down and provide scoring that would be a plus. I see no way in hell he can help defensively, but that's not the problem with this team.

As a lifelong UNC fan, I just have to set the record straight that Boykin's Eastern Michigan team beat Duke, not Carolina in the NCAA tourney (back in 1996). Confusing Duke with UNC is a sanctionable offense!

Man, that's what happens when I try to go from memory and don't just Google. That'll show my old ass. :(

AlohaWiz, I'm a lifelong Maryland fan. I don't really care much about UNC but I despise Duke! I do sincerely apologize, AW.

That Carolina baby blue is altogether better than what Duke wears. I was upset at the start of the Wizards game that ESPN hadn't cutaway from Duke beating UConn. Wouldn't have minded seeing the Dukies having their butts handed to them. (But honestly, Scheyer and Singler are impressive).

Boykins having beaten DUKE just makes him even more impressive in my eyes. I just remembered him and the kid they had named Dial (again from memory) being really good. Earl is a bad little dude.

I was just kidding around ;) Besides, as a Maryland fan I'm guessing you also root for ABD (Anybody But Duke).

As far as Boykins, I've been surprised at how well he's played. My first impression of the signing was the he was being pulled off the scrap heap because the Wizards needed a warm body. But he really has provided a spark to the team. Now if he can just help Gilbert get back to being Agent Zero, then I'd nominate Earl as the Wizards' MVP. [Edit: grammar/spelling]

I think Larry Brown knew what to do against him. Put a really small quick guard
on him. Good thing not many teams have such a player, at least not as good as DJ Agustin
