EG snoozed, Gee loosed. (Hands helped me write that.)

What is their abundance of healthy wings that makes him suddenly so expendable? With their salary issues, I can easily see him playing a part next year, but at least here he'd actually be playing in the NBA.

Sometimes even former Wizards can't seem to shake THE CURSE!

I don't think Gee made a mistake, really.

Gee is still under contract with the Spurs, and still gets guaranteed $ next year - which, presumably, wasn't on the table from the Wizards. In the path not traveled, Gee could've made himself more marketable with a few good showings in DC - or, he could've ended up getting injured, or playing poorly.

I'm sure Gee is happier in the D-League knowing that he's got a guaranteed job all through the summer and through training camp in SAS than playing out the string in DC, only to wait by the phone all summer for a team to dangle a minimum salary deal.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

I think the principle that EG gave away a semi-productive young player for 1/1,000th more capspace this summer still stands.

I thought and still do that having Gee under contract essentially amounts to a 2nd round pick. A 2nd round pick may or may not pan out as an NBA player. However it is still an asset that should not be thrown away for nothing. While it is true that 2nd round picks are often not valued very highly, the two best players on the Wizards were 2nd rounders.

And how much money have they earned selling 2nd round picks?

Again, even if EG made the right move (and I think he blew it, again) I hope Leonsis recognizes the PR disaster that is the Wizards' every move right now, from top to bottom.

I agree mostly, but it's hard to say we threw him away when you consider how little control we had over him. Then again, if they'd offered him the guaranteed minimum for next season, I think he'd have taken it, and I don't see how that would have gotten in the way of any plans going forward.

Are you 100% sure about that? I'm under the impression that the Wizards had total control until they let the 2nd 10-Day contract expire, which then allowed Gee to become a free-agent so that San Antonio could make the guaranteed offer in the first place. It is my understanding at any point prior to that period, the Wizards had the rights to sign Gee for the remainder of the season without any commitment for next season.
