It would of course have been nice to pony up the $4 million and buy the Memphis pick if they felt that way.


Yeah, I don't have the quote, but on draft night, Ernie did say that something to the effect that 2 of the 3 guys that they wanted were already taken (Booker & Pondexter), so that's when they made the Booker move.

One thing is it seems that EG at least partially learned from the fiasco of trading the number 5 too early and made the trade-up deal at the right time. I can't imagine the Minn deal would have been the best offer if teams knew Rubio was there at number 5.

I would have loved the trade-up this year(even if the cost was a little steep), if they could have bought into the 2nd round to get Alabi or Varnado. However overall the draft was solid.
