How to get Melo to the Wizards
If Denver feels compelled to trade him whether or not he agreres to an extension, I feel
the Wizards would be the most logical option, and Carmelo will eventually see it that way as the season progresses. Some reasons include; the Wizards can potentially run away w/ the eastern conference, embarrassing the the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic. Melo would become the only Hometown Hero superstar and gain league wide recognition for it. He's be getting paid more than all the other members of his class.
Denver isn't going to get a better pakage from any team Carmelo agrees to sign to, unless Carmelo wants to play on a wack team, or he wants to play on a wack team and get endorsement money (the knicks). But the Wiz can become the beasts of the East while giving Denver more than enough in return. On top of the trade, the acquisition of a few past Wizard free agent vets would seal it for Washington, allowing them to set their sights on an NBA finals birth.

Re: How to get Melo to the Wizards
Probably should go in the trade thread stickied at the top (viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1036107&start=360), but since it's such a hot topic...
I've got no big problem with the value exchanged here. Denver might. It would suck to trade three 1sts (if you include Seraphim/Booker) for a one-year Anthony rental, and it seems that Leonsis' stated plan for team building would go against trading three 1sts for a superstar, but if he thinks he can convince Anthony to resign, who knows?

I think other teams out there could put together a better package. Makes us pretty good though. Denver would surely ask for Blatche, and i'm not sure i'd give him up for what could possibly be a one year rental of Melo. In fact, i'm sure i wouldnt.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I don't see how we land Melo here w/o giving up one of Blatche or McGee.

I didn't think we needed to grace that suggestion with a response. Alas, you're a better man than I.

Re: How to get Melo to the Wizards
As far as discerning how all the waggling of the future stratagems will take shape, it is interesting that a call was placed anyway. Just that speaks to the direction being flexible and there being more like "the plan(s)" rather than "THE PLAN". That only makes sense, though it'd be pretty ballsy to do something drastic before the upcoming assessment session.
I also wonder if Ted's willing to take on Melo while keeping Gil - that's some serious Hey-big-spender footing if he is. Certainly in that case (and maybe otherwise too) you might as well throw in one of the young bigs (Not Seraphin) because there's no way you can afford all that firepower once it comes time to re-up the fellas. The usage rates are going to be off too.
In other news, I hear that Labradford Smith might be willing to avail himself to us.

I'd give up everybody but Wall if he'd sign an extension. I'd throw in a bunch of picks too

I wouldn't.
Wall plus Melo plus no big men is a recipe for mediocrity. We wouldn't get the job done in the paint and we'd be too good to ever acquire a good enough big man in the draft. I don't want Melo unless we can keep Blatche (and Wall, of course).

Re: How to get Melo to the Wizards
One of Melo's close friends has been quoted as saying he doesn't want to come to D.C. because there are too many bad influences in his old crew.
Melo also doesn't play enough defense to vault us over the top. There might be a way to develop a championship team with Melo and Wall as key pieces, but not without a major reworking of our roster to include some great defenders (and a star big).

We should totally bring back Etan, Stack and Larry. Why don't we bring back EJ too? Where is Doug Collins? Matter of fact, F Ernie, bring back MJ.

I would say that applies to the Wizards regardless of whether they acquire Melo or not.

Re: How to get Melo to the Wizards
IMO, if Melo is available, you make a run for him. Even once he gets the max salary, he is still a bargain because without the max salary restraint, he would be making more that. While it is true, that the Wizards would only be getting him for one guaranteed year, they would also be putting themselves in the best bargaining position to retain him. And, in worst case scenario, if they can't resign him, they can get back nearly everything they lost in acquiring him via a sign and trade.

And this is where I say, Melo's a big boy and if he doesn't want to run into his old crew, he doesn't have to.
