Blatche Not on All-Star Ballot
This is wrong. He's not likely to make the team this year, but he's a lot closer than some of the other forwards (or centers) listed.

Re: Blatche Not on All-Star Ballot
Boozer? has he even played a game this year? i thought you were just blowin smoke but looking at the list...
there is about 6 other guys who he deserves a spot over.
even Bosh shouldnt be on there really.
i guess its all about the name though not the game...

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Re: Blatche Not on All-Star Ballot
Teams can only include 3 players on the All Star ballot. Wall and Arenas are obviously the best players on the team, which leaves just one other guy.
My guess is that management assumed that Blatche had no chance of making it with Amare, Boozer, Bosh, Horford, KG and Josh Smith already in the East. McGee's odds of making at center are bit higher. He could conceivably be the 4th best center in the East behind Howard, Bogut and Noah. If one of them is hurt, McGee has a shot.

Neither is Paul Milsap. That's how it always is though, there's a few guys missing from the ballot who are clearly better than a few guys on the ballot. It doesn't really matter though, as the ballot is just used for when the fans vote for the starters, and Blatche had a 0% chance of being voted as a starter anyways.

Not so: Philly has 3 Fs on the ballot (Brand, Iggy, Young) and 1 G on the ballot (Holiday). Boston's entire starting 5 are on the ballot as well.
Besides, I could've sworn that in years past, I was able to basically vote in the entire Wizards/Bullets starting five - without having to use a write-in vote. This is the first year that I can remember the league "unveiling" the All-Star ballot, as if it were "an honor just being nominated."
Frankly, I'm surprised that Josh Howard wasn't on the ballot, seeing as he's an ex-All-Star. Yeah, he's injured, but that obviously hasn't stopped players from being on the ballot in past years.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Yeah, but why don't they just add every team's starting 5 to the roster - plus a handful of supersubs? Are they trying to save on printing costs? Once the teams are actually selected, it's fun to discuss possible snubs. But leaving a guy like Milsap off the form entirely? That seems to be an easily avoidable controversy.

I stand corrected. You learn something new every day. I could have sworn there was a 3-candidate limit. I did a quick google search and could not find any explanation of the rules for nominations.

I'm shocked that Thaddeus Young is on the ballot but Blatche isn't

I think Michael Lee said there is a three-candidate min, as opposed to max.

Absolutely. Open it up.
As for only 3. 3 is not the limit. It is the min per team. At least that is what I read recently.
No matter. I like it. Gives Dray some fire. Tonights game will be his first chance to prove it.

Re: Blatche Not on All-Star Ballot
IIRC, the *teams* don't put players on the ballot.
It's a panel of sports writers and TV sportscasters that make the decision.

Based on this article, it appears the the panel of sportswriters, etc who picked the players on the ballot included:
J.A. Adande, ESPN
Mark Spears, Yahoo Sports
Ian Thompson, Sports Illustrated
Dough Smith, Toronto Star
Art Garcia, NBA.Com/Turner Sports

Millsap is definitely playing like an all star so far, hard as it is for even me to believe.
McGee is a guy who I can definitely conceive of becoming an all star some day. I believe a switch will flip at some point and Javale's offense will become consistent, inside and out.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Re: Blatche Not on All-Star Ballot
You guys have to remember that the list are done before the season. Wall is the #1 pick, Gil is the former Superstar, and McGee had the monster summer and to outsiders seemed destined for a big leap with his style along with Wall's.
Meanwhile Dray was injuried with a broken foot. Thats why he was left off the ballot, plain & simple. They figured there was no way he could come back that late and still be an All Star so there is no use of puttiing him in. You could argue him over McGee but the Center spot in this league is weak, Dray was hurt, and McGee had a big time summer.
