Nick Young & Yi

Post#1 » by Geaux_Hawks » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:58 am

What do the fans think of Nick Young and Yi?? Do you all think the FO will match their QO especially Young, with Jordan Crawford now in. I would imagine the kid would want about 5 mill a year.Is that acceptable if he got that?

What is Ndiaye looking like?

Young will have a QO tendered to him. Yi will not because his QO will be $5 million, front office can't be THAT stupid.

As far as matching, its $5 million per.. I'd imagine an offer like that would be matched.

But I have a hunch Nick Young is going to team up with Derrick Rose.

What gives you that hunch ?

As for Yi. I think that is an pretty easy call. No way they offer him 5M. He will likely sign somewhere for 1 to 1.5M

Yeah but worthless 7 footers have a way of sticking around the NBA. However I think in Yi's case there is a decent chance of him playing in China next year.

The Bulls don't have cap room. Any MLE sized offer (if the CBA even has an MLE) will probably be matched.

Yi will likely either be playing in China or I could see a team like Golden State bringing him in as an insurance 5th big who could shoot (especially with Vlad Rad off the books next year) and with their increased Asian population, Yi could positivley effect season ticket sales there.

Is a full MLE really worth matching for Nick Young though? I only question it now more with the emergence of Jordan Crawford and the potential redundancy there. I may rather seek a sign and trade via the MLE with someone like Chicago. If the Bulls make the ECF or even lose in the finals etc and see just one missing scorer off the pine as a reason potentially why, I'd love to see a swap of Nick Young sign and trade to Chicago for that Charlotte Bobcats protected pick they have and maybe just throw in Keith Bogans who is expiring.

It may be interesting to see what teams would be over the cap and may overpay for Nick Young...let's examine the following potential destinations:

New Jersey - They do have Morrow, but could use even more offense on that lineup and they have overpaid for talent in the past. With a D-Will's free agency looming in 2012 they may be in a rush to field a winner.

Minnesota - The team will likely draft a non SG and with Love/Rubio/Beasley/Milicic (or Luke instead of Rubio if he doesn't come over) as the likely starting 4 other than the 2-guard slot...and with Wesley Johnson, Anthony Randolph as backups, the team could really use an off the ball scoring 2 to solify their roster...and I get the feeling next season may be Kahn's last chance to field a progressing team.

Sacramento - If Evans is suited more for the PG role they could look to bring another 2-guard (I know theuy have Thornton) to play off the ball and help on the defensive end and scoring load. They are the most under the cap team for 2011-2012 with only 27 million committed to contracts.

And that's really it...so the competition for someone overpaying is really thin. It seems likely that a contender like Chicago will try and throw the full MLE at him...can't see the above teams committing money like that considering their in the rebuilding stage.

I just feel a sign and trade is the best option.

I suspect Nick Young will be back. He's had a nice year, but I don't see how many front offices are going to make a big offer for a guard who has essentially played one good season -- particularly when that one good season has been marred by injury.

Yi -- he's an end-of-the-bench player. Anyone who wants him should be able to get him for a song. But he'll be in the NBA for a long time, I suspect. He's 7 feet tall and can often hit an open jumper. Those guys last.

This is what I believe also.

Yi may want to go play in some other league but if he wants to say in the NBA, I suspect he will have takers if the price is right. Yi may disappoint for a 7 footer who looks like he could play a lot better but he doesn't out right suck like some would make it out. That said, he isn't worth 5M. I think that heavily influences the disappointment. But for 1 to 1.5, he would be valuable to the right team.
