Setting Screens

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:25 pm

This team has got to be the worse at setting screens, just HORRENDOUS! McGee especially, its like he taps them or something, the softest screen imaginable. I saw highlights of the Thunder/Jazz game and Perkins knocked Devin Harris out of the game for a bit b/c he set a hard screen.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Yup. I've been saying this since the first time I saw McGee (attempt to) set a screen. In his dimwitted mind, he believes the roll to the basket is more important than contact on the pick, when in reality, both are necessary.

Probably why it's called the "pick and roll" and not the "roll."

As bad/inexperienced as they are at setting a good screen, as Phil has mentioned the past few games, the guards definitely do a disservice to the bigs by making their mind up too early. You have to let the guy get into position first before making your move. Otherwise the defender can easily move around the screener, often times forcing an offensive foul/moving screen.

They'll get better with time, I suspect.

As bad as our bigs have been setting screens this year (especially McGee), I thought we've been looking better in that area lately. McGee is actually receiving contact on his screens, and it seems like we've been running the high PNR more lately. They're making progress.

Agreed. McGee has actually been seeking contact lately, almost to the point where he should be called for an offensive foul. He sticks his arms up and looks like he's blocking the PG's defender as if he's protecting a quarterback against the pass rush.
