I think many people are downplaying the importance of Mack's role. Obviously it's not a big deal now, because we're tanking, but still, you don't want Wall playing 40 minutes every game. Mack hasn't earned any of his minutes. You want a backup that can still be somewhat productive when your starters are out and ideally want them to have a very good skill (i.e. good passer or good scorer). Mack doesn't really have a good NBA skill. Hopefully EG or our next GM doesn't hold onto him too long and tries to make a upgrade next year.
