rewind to the 06 playoffs, gil in his prime vs lebron

Post#1 » by ST21 » Tue Apr 24, 2012 2:45 am

i don't know about you guys but this the best time of my life as a wizards fan. Arenas in his prime was something spectacular to watch

this shot was the highlight of my wiz fan career. i remember being at glory days in centreville and whole place just erupted.

and to see it ruined by these 2 lecrab dribbles, broke my heart

any thoughts or comments on this epic series 6 years later?

That was our series. That was Gil's series.

That we lost that because of the referees' collective man-crush on LeBron James still gives me a disgustingly sickening feeling in my stomach, especially considering I was at the infamous "travel" game and spotted the travel from my seats up in section 300-something.

I still think we would have made the Finals in 06-07 if Gil didn't get hurt. He was playing like an MVP(that was the year with the 60 point game in LA)and IIRC we were #1 in the East at the break. We would have beaten the Cavs and nobody else in the East was any good(we had the Pistons # back then too).

Such a shame...I hate you Gerald Wallace. :(

Y u post travelling video????

I cant even watch it. It makes me so mad. How the hell did the refs miss that? COME ON BOYS 1 AND A HALF STEPS. BASKETBALL RULES.

And the other one is a travel AND a double-dribble.

ALL MY HATE LEBRON. ALL MY HATE.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Yeah I think people forget just how good Gil was. In his prime he was basically a top 10 player in the league and arguably the league's 2nd best scorer behind Kobe.

I remember staying up till past 1 AM to watch the 60 point game in LA. Probably the best individual performance I've ever seen from a Washington athlete.

Somewhat off topic but December of 06 was one of the best months of Wizards basketball I can ever remember watching:

They briefly became the number 1 seed in the east, Gil got voted in as a starter in the all star game, and EFJ was named coach of the east.

December player of the month. 2 time player of the week.
And the first of many game winning shots: Half court 3 against the Bucks to win at the buzzer.

Gilbert December 06:
34.1 PPG
47.6 FG%
3.7 3PTm
40.7 3PTFG%
80.3 FT%
4.3 RPG
6.2 APG
1.8 SPG

Those were the days.....

We lost every series. These were not good memories. Worst memory - either Lebron whispering in Gil's ear before his FT miss, or Lebron scoring the winner after going past 3 Zards - notably Jamison at the end.

I prefer April 12 - June 7 1978, when they went 14-7.

lol at @monte. A chip is pretty amazing, of course.

Gil was underrated at the time, as well. People were always pointing out his flaws over his efficient, unstoppable scoring ability. They talked about how we couldn't get passed Cleveland with him, how his defense was some of the worst in the league, how he wasn't elite like Kobe, LeBron, or Wade.

I loved and still love him for the good memories, though.

One of my favorite moments as a Wizards fan. Wizards vs. Cavaliers game 6.

5 seconds left, Wizards trail 104-107. Arenas with the improbably 3 from 35 feet, serving Hughes the traitor, with a proper facial.

One of my favorite moments was when the Wizards closed out the Bulls to win that first round series. I was in the hockey press box with Jro, ostensibly to write about the game. Don't remember whether I actually wrote anything or not. The Phone Booth got RAUCOUS that night.

I remember going bonkers when we won game 5 with Gil's dagger over Hinrich.

I missed game 6 because I was at my HS prom. In fact I missed two Game 6s in a row(Bulls 05 and Cavs 06)because of prom. :-?

Huh, you know, watching that video... isn't taking four steps after picking up your dribble illegal? I think they have a term for that... "wandering" or something...
