Mack or Pargo is splitting hairs. The reality is neither one of them is any good.

It's not splitting hairs. If you have two players, neither of whom is much good, you keep the younger player who still has a chance to improve over the old guy who you KNOW cannot improve.
Except, of course, that's not the difference here. Mack was an acceptable backup much of last season, whose performance tailed off toward the end of the year -- a common rookie malady. And Mack had a MUCH better preseason.
