Yep, I speculated the same thing on the previous page. Something like Ariza+Crawford for Butler+pick might very well have been what the Wizards were really trying for.

Webster is (also) better than Caron right now. Not sure what Caron would bring
to the table that would make us want to bring him back.

Webster to the clippers real would have made the most sense. At this point he is younger better and cheaper version of butler. A couple of useless min players and a pick would have been a fair return.

Or if the wizards wanted to be really creative, they could have targeted Deandre Jordan. Not sure who would appeal to the clippers more nene or okafor.
