the w is rottweillers really fits well with washington. I also think it captures the identity of the team and john wall.

much better than wizards or bullets.

This one made me laugh, hilarious!

Also like the one suggested The Gridlocks.

I've posted this before, but I like The Washington Capitols. It was the name of the 1st NBA team in DC, coached by Red Auerbach, and featuring the 1st black player in the NBA Earl Lloyd.

Also like The Washington Glory, which I submitted in the name contest back when it happened, although the contest was a big fake.

The are all the popular standbys The Justice, The Monuments, The Generals, The Dragons.

We could go back in Wizards history and go The Zephyrs (remember those throw-backs?).

Here's some other suggestions..

The Washington Abe's (in honor of Abe Pollin and Abe Lincoln).
The Washington Riverdogs
The Washington Potomacs
The Washington Rebels
The Washington Blues
The Washington Dukes (tribute to Duke Ellington)
The Washington Renaissance (The Rens for short)
The Washington Revolution
The Washington Hoops
The Washington Wildcats (Wildcats were a fighter plane used in WW2)
The Washington Woodthrush (official bird of DC)
The Washington Grays

But, alas, at this point I think we are stuck with Wizards, for better or worse. I don't think it will ever change now.

However, I do enjoy reading some of the creative and entertaining proposed new names I've seen in this thread.

But we should get Washington's NFL team to change it's freaking racist nickname...that's something worth talking about and fighting for.

That's something we agree on.

Agree...time to fire up a new thread!

Adam Carolla suggested that the 'zards be renamed the BULLET (trains) as a compromise.

I like what Barkley said

Ever notice how half our "fans" appear to be rooting for the visiting team? Coincidence?

when you're in perpetual rebuild mode, and you're a transplant city, you do get your fair share of the opposition filling the seats. I kind of wonder if Ted knows this and doesn't care to do as much competently with regards to building a good team, since he'll have the seats filled by the opposition anyways.

I'm not a Caps fan. Do they deal with the same issue? I see it a little at Nationals games but not nearly so much as at Wizards games. Further, New York and LA have large numbers of transplants. They don't seem to have that problem. A good team would win over quite a few fans.

Those cities have historic franchises though. Consider ATL, pretty damn good team, but they get filled with those scummy NY fans for their games, same when the celtics come into town. Even if we were a 45+win team we'd still a fair share of those unpleasant northern douches at the games. I think Ted KNOWS he's have some seating capacity filled, so his bottom line won't be hurt as bad even if we do suck balls.

I imagine if the team was worth a **** then maybe he'd get better TV deals, so as long as that incentive remains he may try to turn things around a bit more rapidly.
