They took MIami to 7 games last year- so maybe he did think the Celtics had one more chance. Then even the remote possibility of that happening ended when Rondo went down with his injury. But yeah, not sure why he signed a five year deal with Celtics.
He may have figured that they would be able to re-build on the fly, and had roughly a 4 year-window. It might have happened if Glen Davis and Jeff Green had developed more and Ray Allen has stayed in Boston. Based on some of the stuff this year, the last year of a coaching deal doesn't seem to mean much.
