NBA 2K14 Wizards MyGM

Post#1 » by DMVman1981 » Thu Jan 23, 2014 9:44 pm

After making the preseason Gortat trade, Ted Leonsis finally gave Ernie Grunfeld the boot and hired me to construct a contender out of our Washington Wizards. My first order of business was to schedule a one on one meeting with Ted and discuss goals for the upcoming season.

Ted gave me the following goals….

1. Play Otto Porter an average of 24 minutes/night
2. Sign a 6th man rated 74 or higher
3. Improve upon the 2012 season record

I agreed to improve the team record over the 2012 season and stated that we might be able to sign a 6th man rated 74 or higher. As for Otto Porter averaging 24 minutes a night….I told Ted that this would be difficult given the current makeup of our roster.

After my meeting with Ted the next order of business was to get with Randy Whitman to speak about the roster and best rotation to help us win. We agreed to TRY the following…

John Wall – 36 minutes per night
Bradley Beal – 34 minutes per night
Trevor Ariza – 32 minutes per night
Nene – 30 minutes per night
Marcin Gortat – 32 minutes per night
Garrett Temple – 12 minutes per night as primary backup PG and wing defender
Martell Webster – 24 minutes total. 14 minutes a night as primary backup SG, 10 minutes as backup SF
Otto Porter – 6 minutes per night as backup SF
Trevor Booker – 18 minutes per night as primary backup PF
Kevin Seraphin – 16 minutes per night as primary backup C
Jan Vesely – Plays to bring hustle and energy when Booker/Seraphin are struggling or injured
Chris Singleton - Plays in spot situations in smaller lineups as a PF and additional wing defender
Al Harrington – Plays in spot situations to bring added offense off bench as a stretch 4
Glen Rice JR. – Plays in spot situations to bring hustle and energy off bench
Eric Maynor – Does not play and looking to trade for a bag of chips or mambo sauce

Offensive Focus – run & gun, inside and outside attack, crash offensive glass
Defensive Focus – man to man, pressure ball, box out

Primary Scoring Options
1. John Wall
2. Bradley Beal
3. Nene

Let me know your thoughts on our lineup strategy and I will keep you posted about the team after simulating through 20 games in the season.

Hows 2k14 man?

Thinking of getting an Xbone and 2k14. Although i didnt play 2k13 that much, it didnt feel very different from the previous year.

Sorry in advance if this derails the thread.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

You might want to take a look at the line ups and rotations thread to get an idea of what people think.

This is pretty cool. I'd play Otto some more given his overall (74 I believe) and develop him a bit more. Maybe sign A backup PG like that French guy, Beurboise (spelling lol).

I took a look around the lineups and rotations thread to see what others have posted….

It seems as though I’m on the right track with the team but I might decide to give Otto more minutes to develop and keep him from losing confidence like Anthony Bennett.

I decided to play the first two games of the regular season and then simulate the next 18. I don't have the time to actually play an 82 game season.

Bradley Beal went down with a broken hand in the 18th game and was replaced by Martell Webster in the starting lineup.

This changed our lineup/rotation around…

John Wall – 36 minutes per night
Martell Webster – 34 minutes per night
Trevor Ariza – 32 minutes per night
Nene – 30 minutes per night
Marcin Gortat – 32 minutes per night
Garrett Temple – 12 minutes per night as primary backup PG and wing defender
Glen Rice JR. – 14 minutes per night as primary backup SG
Otto Porter – 16 minutes per night as backup SF
Trevor Booker – 18 minutes per night as primary backup PF
Kevin Seraphin – 16 minutes per night as primary backup C
Jan Vesely – Plays to bring hustle and energy when Booker/Seraphin are struggling or injured
Chris Singleton - Plays in spot situations in smaller lineups as a PF and additional wing defender
Al Harrington – Plays in spot situations to bring added offense off bench as a stretch 4
Eric Maynor – Does not play and looking to trade for a bag of chips or mambo sauce
Bradley Beal – Out with broken hand

Team Record after 20 games: 9 wins – 11 losses

Relevant Stats
Wall – 22 ppg, 4.3 reb/game, 2.3 steals, 9.2 assists, .7 blocks, 42% shooting, 33% 3pt shooting
Beal – 18.7 ppg, 3.7 reb/game, 1.0 steals, 2.8 assists, .2 blocks, 41% shooting, 43% 3pt shooting
Ariza – 16.4 ppg, 5.2 reb/game, 1.7 steals, 2.0 assists, .3 blocks, 44% shooting, 40% 3pt shooting
Nene – 12.2 ppg, 6.9 reb/game, .7 steals, 2.0 assists, .9 blocks, 48% shooting
Gortat – 13.1 ppg, 9.4 reb/game, .5 steals, 1.6 assists, 1.3 blocks, 48% shooting
Temple – 2.3 ppg, 43% shooting, 29% 3pt shooting
Webster – 7.9 ppg, 38% shooting, 37% 3pt shooting
Porter – 4.6 ppg, 39% shooting, 30% 3pt shooting
Booker – 6.3 ppg, 3.8 reb/game, 53% shooting
Seraphin – 5.8 ppg, 3.2 reb/game, 44% shooting
Vesely – N/A
Singleton – N/A
Harrington – N/A
Maynor – N/A

I’m going to start looking at what other teams will offer me for individual trades with…

Ariza
Maynor – Hate his contract
Webster – Like the player...hate the years on the contract
Seraphin – I don’t plan on resigning him and might as well try to get something in return for him. There might be a team interested because of expiring contract.
Nene – I like him as a player on the team but hate his contract.
Vesely - I don’t plan on resigning him and might as well try to get something in return for him. There might be a team interested because of expiring contract.
Singleton - I don’t plan on resigning him and might as well try to get something in return for him. There might be a team interested because of expiring contract.

I will keep you posted…

The game play and presentation in 2K14 on PS4 are great. I hate some things but overall the game is good because it allows me to be the team GM.

1. I hate the way the other players on your team run the floor, cut to the basket/fill in lanes, and don’t spot up or space the floor properly.

2. When you’re trying to sign a free agent or negotiate a contract the game has a glitch where you can’t change the value of your offer unless you hold certain buttons on the controller.

3. The game has a playoff glitch that occurs when you try to advance to the next round. If you sweep your series and the team(s) you would play in the next round go to game 7…NBA 2K14 won’t let you advance to the next round.

You have to edit the player tendencies for individual players if you want them to spot up.

Beal for example was set to almost never spot up in 2k13 and almost always try and take the ball inside. He'd never take threes. If you change the ratio in his tendencies to spot up more than drive, he starts catching and shooting.

From my 2K14 fantasy draft from last night

PG- Wall, MCW, Livingston
SG- Lance Stephenson, Webster
SF- Affalo, Antetokounmpo
PF- Millsap, Ryan Anderson, Terrence Jones
C- Hibbert, Len

I lost my first game to a team of CP3, Amare, Corey Maggette, Jimmy Butler so my video game skills aren't that good.
