The only issue is that the ref falsely believed that Beal's heels were inside the circle, so it was ruled a blocking foul. Apparently, foot placement is reviewable, and that's what they did.
They didn't use instant replay to alter the referee's belief that Beal was moving while taking the charge. That's not permissible by the rules.
Phil Chenier kept saying Beal moved his shoulder - and they showed the replay about 7 times - Beal still hasn't moved his shoulder. This kind of thing's been happening all season with Phil. I don't know if he's having trouble with his vision or just not "focusing" on the action, but it's gotten irritating - especially combined with Buck making his often incorrect officiating comments.
The other problem with this: Phil has NEVER understood what the actual block/charge rule is. Phil will often talk about how the defensive player was "still moving." But, there's nothing in the rulebook that says a defensive player has to be motionless. He's been wrong on the charge rule for as long as I can remember him being on the broadcasts.
And watching the SB reminded me of a time long ago when we had a different analyst.
Anybody old enough to remember who I'm talking about?
